So when I booked the hostel online it said Williamsburg, Brooklyn and we all know that's where the cool kids are. The pictures online looked amzing, huge rooms, tidy and filled with sunlight and the best part, the hostel just opened so everything was brand new. That sounded almost to good to be true. I asked for a late check-in and the guys told me to call once my flight landed so they wouldn't wait forever if I didn't make it. But I did and called them around 1am. I didn't know what I expected but it topped everything ! Even though I wanted to take a cab from Penn Station they talked me into taking the subway (in a very cute way), explained how to get to the hostel (super easy to find !) and in the end it saved me a lot of money. When I got there the first thing I noticed was that the hostel manager and his brother were probably younger than I am. Even though it was the middle of the night they behaved like we were old mates and put me in the biggest nicest room they had - awesome ! It was clean, warm, huge (queensize beds !) and sunny. Room had lockers and a desk to work on & a cozy oriental carpet. Staff was always helpful with whatever I needed. The only downgrades were the missing kitchen (that was almost ready to be used but was waiting for a permit by the state of NY) and maybe the location. It is still Williamsburg for sure and if you go down the street to catch the sub it's all nice and you get to see some hipsters but if you wanna take a stroll into the other direction you're in the middle of a puerto rican neighborhood, with 'kill-mo(o)re street' (that's what some local told me the other night) up the road. I felt a bit uncomfortable walking there after sunset...but maybe that's all in my head ! So I'm definitly recommending this place and will return for sure !

Room Tip: The big female dorm in 206 is absolutely gorgeous !

Most hostels involve an extremely large room with as many beds in it as possible or a tiny room with tiny beds. NY Moore is different in that it is made of fairly large rooms with a reasonable amount of beds. My friends and I stayed in a room with six beds and a small sitting area in the center. From what I understand, the rooms come bigger and smaller with a similar set up. The rooms have a loftish feel with high ceilings and large windows. Each room has its own bathroom and is fairly private. The beds were comfy with clean sheets and blankets. The staff is very diverse and friendly. Any requests/questions were addressed immediately. The hostel is about a 10 minute walk from the Montrose station with a variety of restaurants, a liquor store and a few grocery stores nearby. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to stay in a hostel that seems bit more homey than some of the other hostels. At $50 a night, its a great deal.

Since that hostel is just starting out, the interior is a bit rough (visible plaster on the walls, random furniture) but nothing that is a complete deal breaker. The lighting was somewhat random/sparse. There were a few overhead lights and some lamps but the one closest to my bed had a European plug. The heating/air con is centrally controlled and some rooms are hot while others are cold. That was a bummer but if you ask, they could probably move you to a room that is more to your tastes.

Room Tip: It is easy for them to keep groups together or to request being put in a smaller room if you are a s...

To put simply: 20 minutes from down town manhattan, wonderful room of my own, super cheap, and incredibly helpful 3 brothers that run the place. I have now found my perfect place to stay in New York, stay any where else at your own risk. You really could not ask for more from a place to stay, would even choose over a hotel for its atmosphere combined with price.
