My husband and I stopped here (on our last day in ny) after reading a good review on one of the new york foodie sites that talked of their home-made mozzarella and the brick oven. I only wish we went sooner, because we would've gone here a few more times that trip! I felt it was worth getting tripadvisor to create a listing for them so that I can add this review.
They were just setting the tables up for lunch, and the place was empty. They said the oven wouldn't be ready for another 15 but we opted to wait. The venue was clean with nice wood table/chair sets, gorgeous oven flaming in the cooking area. they had been open for three weeks.
we ordered two pizzas even though it was likely too much to finish. the margherita (home-made mozzarella, basil, tomato sauce), and a pizza bianche, with porcini mushroom, pesto, bufala mozzarella.
they brought us a delicious fresh salad 'for being patient while the oven warmed up'. It was a good size salad, and tasty, so I ate the entire thing and started worrying about ordering two pizzas. Then the pizzas arrived, about 12 inches, and it was heaven. We both agreed the margherita was the fav, though they were both exceptional. I'm getting hungry writing this review! That mozzarella, the pizza crust, and the tomato sauce flavour, all amazing. Comparable to pizza we had in Italy. We finished most of it and got the rest to go, but it lasted probably 30 mins before I ate the rest. I'm sorry about not ordering one of their dessert pizzas to go as well.
I'd highly recommend you go. it's so worth the drive to brooklyn, though I heard they're opening one in Manhattan this summer. If it was a two-hour drive or less, I'd do it for this pizza. Thanks Forcella! such simple ingredients done right, and it makes for some delicious pizza that we can't stop talking about.
