“Convenient for pre-cruise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2011

We arrived around 12:30 pm and were allowed to check in to our room. This was very convenient for us. The concierge was most helpful in directing us to attractions, and also helping us navigate the subway system. We stayed at the club level, and this was nice in that we got breakfast and happy hour, but more importantly, a 24 hour private lounge with wi-fi access.

The only down side is that the pool is only open from 5pm to 10pm on weekdays, and one of the days we were there it wasn't open at all.

Clean and new but pricey considering that it is like a atm do it your self kind of service.
At $400/nite I expected a little more space in the lobby and reception. Location is good and you can walk everywhere downtown. Small room and huge balcony to look nowhere

We stayed for 3 nights, one more than hurricane Emily. She did influence the standard of service; leaking water in the club lounge, shortage of staff, entrance foyer always full of people trying to book hotels as the airports were closed, high prices etc but thankfully the hotel wasn’t one of those that were unnecessarily evacuated.

The entrance foyer is functional but not particularly special. Check in was quick and the 24th floor room benefited from a great view. The room was of good quality, clean and comfortable but not spectacular and only had a shower. We chose a club room and could use the 2nd floor club lounge. Snacks in the club lounge on the Friday evening were good. Breakfast each day was more than adequate but snacks over the weekend were sacrificed for the Hurricane. Breakfast on one day was in the main restaurant and a payment was demanded, not great PR. The pool looked ok for a city hotel but only opened from 17:00 on weekdays. The hotel is not in the best area but is about one block from better areas and only 5 blocks or so from the river promenade and the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge paths, both of which go to locations in Manhattan that are fun to explore and to seek out camera crews vainly seeking destruction. There is a subway nearby and taxis are easy to find but neither is highly recommended. There are HP Touchsmart computers in the club lounge and foyer for internet access and these worked well. The key cards were temperamental for the lifts, access to the club lounge and room but usually worked after several attempts. The staff were pleasant even though this must have been a challenging weekend. At a bargain price, this is a decent choice and we would consider staying again at the price we paid. If we had to pay more, we’d choose a hotel in Manhattan. Metered taxi from LaGuardia airport cost $55, unmetered taxi to JFK cost $60 both including tip. The latter was a much better vehicle and more pleasant journey.

The Hotel was o.k. but in the worst section of Brooklyn. All the buildings around it were either in the process of being torn down, had been torn down, in the process of being renovated, were either boarded up and all other negatives negatives. There are 'NO" good restaurants within walking distance except for a McDonalds (of which is not on my list as being a good restaurant !). We did find 'Juniors' about 4-blocks away. Also 'Morton's Steakhouse' about 6-blocks away (but walking thru a very 'seedy' part of town). Fantastic place to eat - - but extremely expensive - but I would go there again if I 'had' to stay in Brooklyn. It is across the street from the Brooklyn Marriott which is a better place in area. But either Hotel would be o.k. for a pre- or post-cruise 1-night stay. The Brooklyn port is very near for Cruise Ships going out of that area such as Princess Cruises.

Room Tip: Get a 'high' room floor and a view towards Manhattan.

Stayed here two nights before the Hurricane, found room clean and tidy. Free internet acess in lobby. Flight was cancelled and rather than paying requested $369 a night to stay there for extra 3 nights moved to a hotel in Manhattan for half the price, Location is pretty good subway 2 blocks away, however if coming to New York again would stay in Manhattan. Swimming pool and fitness room okay but strange opening times doesn't open during week until 5pm - 10pm

I was there during Hurricane Irene. When the Airlines canceled our flights we ask the front desk to stay two more days. They DOUBLED the rate on us, thought they had us locked in. With two rooms at 2X the rate, it was cheaper to get a taxi to the next NJ and rent a car for the drive home. Never give Sheraton a dime again.

Also food and front desk survice was terrible

Room Tip: go somewhere else

I just got back from this past weekend's (Aug.26-28, 2011) stay at the Sheraton in Brooklyn. I attended a wedding that almost didn't happen because of Hurricane Irene. The staff at the hotel did their best too keep us all informed about the hurricane and where the hotel was located so we wouldn't panic. The lobby has televisions that played the weather channel all day and night to keep us updated as to the conditions outside. I felt very safe there. It is a difficult task to keep a hotel full of people calm when a hurricane is headed your way -- not knowing how much damage would be done. I want to commend David, Matt and a young lady whose name I have forgotten (my apologies), [she wears long braids pulled back in a pony tail], for their dedication to the Sheraton and to it's customers. It was a very scary weekend and they all made us feel rest-assured that the Sheraton would take good care of us. KUDOS to you all!!! I thank you.

Room Tip: The rooms are small, but that is typical of NYC hotel rooms. If you can upgrade to a suite then do...
