Delightful Experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 17, 2016
The rooms are clean and modern. A great deal of thought and detail went into making this hotel perfect for the observant traveller. The staff exceeded every request with such graciousness, I wondered if I was really in New York! I reccoment every traveller take the opportunity to avail themselves of this Jewel in the midst of Boro Park.

Having never before had any hotel stay experience, this was a very nice and comfortable experience. The rooms were spacious, the full bath was a nice plus and the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Not the least was their "continental breakfast", i do not think me and my wife have had a scrumptious breakfast as the one served.

Located in the heart of Brooklyn's Chassidic Boro Park along 13th Ave. this European decor hotel with semi-circle wrought iron balconies and dark burl wood furniture is luxurious.

Rooms come with two 3/4 beds or an upgrade to two double beds.

Complementary toiletries go beyond the norm and include toothbrushes, dental picks, mini- toothpaste and mouthwash.

And of course there is a true Shabbat lamp so no timer needed.

Included is a generous buffet breakfast and visiting friends got a 50% discount when added to our billing.

There is also a small parking lot across the street for $20 a day which is a bargain as street parking is overcrowded.

Otherwise the D train to Manhattan and Penn Station is just 5 short blocks away and with prices 1/3 less than comparable Manhattan hotels, it may serve your New York needs.

Best of all, 13th Ave and adjoining streets are a return to 1930s Eastern Europe were streets were filled with bearded Jewish men in black long coats and black top hats and every store was kosher and catered to the frum -- from dresses to hats to shoes to men's coats to bookstores. And every block has at least one yeshiva!

Tip: Concierge staff can be abrupt if you don't look/dress frum but the rooms and overall experience is worth it.

Awful.

Had booked a confirmed reservation for part of our honeymoon. We were in town to see a concert, eat well, drink excessively and have a nice day and night on the last leg of our honeymoon. Upon our arrival, we were informed that our reservation was "lost" necessitating a trip to my car to retrieve a hard copy print out of my confirmed reservation.

Once located, I was informed that I couldn't check-in at the normal hour of 1 PM, or even at the hotel's posted time of 3 PM, but would have to wait until 9 or 10 and they "would see if they could accomodate me".

The excuse for the abominable treatment and overly brusque handling of my situation? "We are a Jewish hotel". I don't even know what that means to the hotel-booking traveler, actually. But seemingly the desk-clerk found that an acceptable excuse for incompetency and rudeness.

I appreciate them putting me in an awkward, and uncomfortable position with my new bride by my side. I really do.

The plus side is we booked a new hotel that was better, had a friendly and competent staff, and catered to our needs efficiently and professionally.

The minus side is that, in addition to the anger and embarrassment at that moment, they had the nerve to send me a cancellation notice which irked and incensed me again. I have reached out to both the hotel and IHG and have received no response as of yet.

I had a confirmed reservation, yet was informed rudely that it would not be honored the day I tried to check in.

On my honeymoon.

The gentleman at the front desk first "couldn't find" my reservation and then would not honor it until 9 or 10 PM because "it is a Jewish hotel".

I will be contacting IHG, Yelp, Trip Advisor and anyone else who will listen and post my reviews.

On the plus side, we got a room at a nicer hotel than yours.

Getting this, after being denied service on my confirmed reservation, on my honeymoon, in such an abrupt and rude fashion, has angered and incensed me greatly, and caused me great duress and embarrassment.
