Description: Char No. 4 is a whiskey bar & restaurant inspired by a passion for bourbon. The name refers to the practice of aging bourbon in charred new oak barrels, which gives bourbon its characteristic sweet, caramelized flavors and its beautiful amber hue. Char No. 4 features over 150 American whiskeys and serves a menu of American fare with a focus on smoked meat. The American whiskeys are augmented by an extensive list of whiskeys from Europe and beyond as well as a selection of all-bourbon cocktails. Char No. 4 is located in a 19th century row house in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. The design environment takes inspiration from this tradition in its treatment of light, its use of color, and in its nod to the form and construction of whiskey barrels both within the water-jet cut pattern of the steel facade, and in custom designed light fixtures. A field of large cylindrical pendants suffuse the space with a tawny glow that sets a mood of sophisticated conviviality for both drinking and dining.

“Really Southern Style Brunch in Brooklyn☕️”
Reviewed March 3, 2014 via mobile

Do you like grits? Well , this is the place to try them, cooked with sausage and poached eggs on top. The biggest biscuit I have ever seen with white gravy.,Yummy! Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's plus a great cup of coffee. Dark inside and very crowded.

“Awesome Bourbon Bar”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

While in Brooklyn visiting some friends they took myself and my wife to this unassuming store front that was Char No 4. Its a typical City bar in that its fairly small shotgun style bar with some table in the back and a small 10 or so seat bar in the front. the best part were the some 120 different bourbons. Anywhere from $2/oz up too $100/oz. As a southern man it was Mecca of the brown booze. AS with everything in the city prices are high but thats just something you expect while visiting.

“Wonderful American Fare off by the beaten track.”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

After a fraught incident with the subway ticket machine we were on our way to Brooklyn. Char No 4 is a very short walk from Bergen street station which makes it really easy to get to from Manhattan.

The restaurant had a really laid back, informal, friendly atmosphere. We were running 20 minutes late because of the aforementioned subway ticket machine but the staff were really polite about it.

The food was delicious; I had the pulled pork and my girlfriend the brisket. Both were delicious with amazing sides. The cocktails were to die for, especially if you like bourbon.

All in all a brilliant evening.

“Salty and nothing special”
Reviewed October 18, 2013 via mobile

We selected this restaurant for a special celebration and were simply not wowed by our experience. The dining room was crowded, noisy and hot. Everything we ordered, except the mac & cheese, was very salty - even the side salad (how does that happen?) The menu selections sounded great but just weren't. The special bourbon cocktails, however, were interesting. I'm sorry that I have no interest in returning.
