Description: Char No. 4 is a whiskey bar & restaurant inspired by a passion for bourbon. The name refers to the practice of aging bourbon in charred new oak barrels, which gives bourbon its characteristic sweet, caramelized flavors and its beautiful amber hue. Char No. 4 features over 150 American whiskeys and serves a menu of American fare with a focus on smoked meat. The American whiskeys are augmented by an extensive list of whiskeys from Europe and beyond as well as a selection of all-bourbon cocktails. Char No. 4 is located in a 19th century row house in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. The design environment takes inspiration from this tradition in its treatment of light, its use of color, and in its nod to the form and construction of whiskey barrels both within the water-jet cut pattern of the steel facade, and in custom designed light fixtures. A field of large cylindrical pendants suffuse the space with a tawny glow that sets a mood of sophisticated conviviality for both drinking and dining.

Nice laid-back but very professional vibe. Great charcuterie app - Acorn squash risotto was to die for. Wonderful staff. Good for business or pleasure meal. Would definitely go back.

If you like your steak char-grilled, this is definitely a restaurant not to be missed. Unfortunately we didn't realise it would be so popular, or we would have called ahead and booked a table, but we enjoyed a magnificent 24oz rib-eye steak, cooked medium-rare with fries and a bottle of ice-cold spanish white wine at the bar, and vowed to return again to sample some of the other tempting dishes this place has to offer.

Went to Char 4 on Saturday for Brunch and had a terrific time. The menu is pretty extensive with a list of specialty drinks, including solid choices for bourbon and whiskey lovers, like chipotle bourbon bloody mary (you can ask for a regular BM too, which is delicious). The décor is very cozy with a small diner-like old-times atmo; but there is larger, more modern section of the restaurant in the back available as well for those patrons who may feel less retro that day. The food has a real southern twist to it with some of the best grits and biscuit I have ever tried. Brunch Fixed Price was awesome. Delicious piece of ham, cheddar grits, poached egg and potatoes did the trick ($16pp). It is also one of the few brunch places left that still serves shrimp and grits ($18), which made my friend very happy that day. The service was very pleasant and fairly quick on a busy Saturday. We will definitely return. Enjoy!

I have been to this restaurant three times, and the experience just gets better each time. Delicious starters, awesome whiskey selection, and amazing entrees. I have been for brunch, dinner, and late small plates and whiskey. A+ each time.

I had the pancakes and was very pleased with the unique butter and berry combo. It was also a very large portion that could easily be shared with someone else. I also ordered a side of the home fries (potatoes) and got a side of their house made hot sauce which was also very tasty. This is coming from someone who LOVES spicy food and puts spice on almost everything. I would highly recommend this place for brunch if in the area. Nice collection of whiskeys too!
