Owner description: The New York Transit Museum, one of the city's leading cultural institutions, is the largest museum in the United States devoted to urban public transportation history, and one of the premier institutions of its kind in the world. The Museum explores the development of the greater New York Metropolitan region through the presentations of exhibitions, tours, educational programs, and workshops dealing with the cultural, social, and technological history of public transportation. Since its inception over a quarter century ago, the Museum, housed in a historic 1936 IND subway station in Brooklyn Heights, has grown in scope and popularity. As custodian and interpreter of the region's extensive public transportation networks, the Museum strives to share, through its public programs, this rich and vibrant history with local, regional, and international audiences.

“A Subway entrance you'll never forget!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

Alone or with a family this is a treasure. Plan at least a couple of hours or more to visit this very informative attraction. The history of the Subway is captured in many great old pictures and displays. The presentation is appealing to both young and old. Exhibits are hands on, covering more than just trains. Saturday and Sunday also have on-site guided tours. See how the Subway in NYC began!

Great fun for all ages - see how the transit system developed & helped New York prosper & grow into what it is today. Lots of great exhibits & yesteryear trains to experience.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

It is a good place if you have a hour or two of hours to kill. They have all different subway cars from the 40s onward. Was cheap at $7. It would be good for kids even tho it was not that big.

“really cool”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

This place was really cool. I loved all the old trains parked in station. It was a trip to be able to enter and sit in a car from the 40s 50s 60s etc. well worth the 7 bucks!
