Cannot say enough about this little gem of a hotel near Borough Hall in Brooklyn. Has great neighborhood surrounding it & is easily reachable by several main subway lines. Takes less than 30 minutes to get into NYC. Rooms are well appointed with great design details link a chalkboard in the bathroom. Comfortable bed and ample space in the room & bathroom. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor - it was quiet & the blackout shades in the rooms were great.

Basically, just follow the TripAdvisor reviews: the NU Hotel is a modern, cool, comfy, hip little spot in a fun corner of Brooklyn. I stayed in a King room with a hammock that, honestly, felt really spacious compared not just to Manhattan rooms but to hotel rooms in general. It was super clean, which is important to me. It being a modern, Euro-style hotel, the decor is fairly futuristic, hip, etc. The bed was one of those low-slung to the floor types, but it was super comfy and large.

Staff and check-in were great. The place has a small, but stylish little lobby with original art and a little outdoor seating area and bar. Close-by are tons of great restaurants on Smith Street. And, for those not familiar with NYC, Manhattan is only really a 20-30 minute subway ride away and there are plenty of trains nearby. Also, the neighborhood that the hotel is in is safe. I used to live nearby, it's fine, despite there being a jail across the street. (Well...there is.) Tip: don't pay the $25 for hotel parking. There's plenty of free street parking in the area if you're patient enough to look for it...and good enough at parallel parking.

Room Tip: There's going to be street noise. It's a small hotel. It's in Brooklyn. The King room...

Thanks for the detail review! You touched on all great points about our hotel and neighborhood. We're always working to put our best foot forward in every interaction with our guests and community. While you like the current decor we're actually preparing for a property refresh in January 2013. We hope you can come back then to experience the new design! Oh, and we like to call it a Holding Facility across the street :)

We stayed only one night since we were in town for a wedding. Glad we did! The room was clean, nice sized with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and the chalkboard paint and chalk was fun! My very tall husband was so happy with the height of the shower head.No need to duck! The Nu hotel has a couple of bicycles that they lend out on a first come first served bases. We took a ride across the Brooklyn bridge ( 1 mile away). The subway is only 3 blocks away and felt safe. Breakfast was in the cozy lobby which allowed us to catch up with everyone in town for the wedding before we left in the morning. I understand we got a "Friends and Neighbors" rate since the bride and groom were local. Nice touch! We would stay again!

Room Tip: Room 420 is nice, but if you can upgrade you might get a room with a hammock ( and bed too)

Thanks for sharing your great experience! We always like receiving feedback like this. Let's us know we're doing something right! The Neighborhood Friends and Family rate is a great way to receive a discount if you're visiting family in Brooklyn. Our little way of saying thanks to the community! We hope to see you again soon in Brooklyn!

We've stayed here many times and have always been satisfied. The room is comfortable (wished they had king-sized beds, though) and the Wi-Fi is free. Breakfast is provided and is completely adequate. The front desk is extremely helpful and I have to particularly praise Dan as not only helpful but really enthusiastic about customer service. Five blocks to the subway. What could be better? We will come back, I'm sure. Oh, one negative...the parking lot (not affiliated with the hotel but the one everyone uses) has attendants who are often not there when you drive in or need your car and are a bit nasty. Oh well.

Thanks for the outstanding review! Seems like you're a regular of ours. We need to get you into a King Bedded room! We actually do have King size beds available. I'd love to offer an upgrade on your next visit so you can experience the added space and comfort while in Brooklyn. Thanks for the feedback regarding the garage as well. I just forwarded your comments to the Regional Manager of the garage. They have to understand that they are an extension of the hotel. If we recommend our guest to stay there then the service should be the same as ours.

Oh, and Dan says hello! Thanks for the great comments. We'll see you again soon!

We spent a weekend in July and the Staff was simply FABULOUS! Michael, Shannon, and Christina were wonderful and so very helpful. From tips on the neighbor for "hot" dinner spots, to where the best "ice cream/yogurt" could be found. The room was clean, good size, with a mini bar - awesome! The breakfast buffet was adequate, and good variety and part of the stay. The neighborhood is a great location, close, walking distance to everywhere we wanted to explore! HIGHLY recommended!

Nu Hotel, great location for this small, European style hotel with even better care from excellent staff. Eco sensitive, good sized rooms, simple furnishing, clean and fine value. Adequate buffet breakfast part of the deal...but if you want more just step outside... Numerous restaurants, casual and not too costly. Free loaner bikes and helmets. Close to subway, other public transport...a few stops from Manhattan's Lower East side AND the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, museum, Brooklyn Bridge and parks. Fun and funky shops in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on street side of hotel, which is a bit noisy. Ask for fourth floor room...that is t...

We've recently returned after a 4 day stay to visit our son in Brooklyn. We picked this boutique hotel because it was close to where he lives and felt incredibly lucky to have stumbled on such a great place! The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was big by NYC standards and we had asked for a quiet room in the back and got one. It was a hot summer week so the most noise came from our AC... but still, I think the room would be quiet anyway. The sheets were clean and the bathroom had everything needed and a chalkboard wall for creative drawing and messaging! We walked to great restaurants and all over BK. Love the workout room downstairs. Breakfasts had all you could want to eat - lots of variety, including plain yogurt, which you never find in hotel continental breakfasts. On the day we were leaving, as I was getting in the car I asked the young man at the desk if he had a bandaid for my blister. He RAN back in and came back with one and a big smile! LOVED this place and will return!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room in the back or "courtyard".
