They do offer a recommendation, but you can pay what you want. I saw the Mickalene Thomas exhibit. Loved it.

The Museum store also has a nice selection.

“A Real Gem in Brooklyn”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

A fantastic collection of Egyptian Art and antiquities that is first class. The Decorative Arts Galleries is incredible. The Period Rooms contains a collection of 23 rooms. The rooms were disassembled and moved from their original locations along the Eastern coast, then reassembled. Anyone interested in the decorative arts will be well rewarded. I especially like Moorish Smoking Room, The Worsham-Rockefeller House. New York, built 1864–65. A nice collection of American and European paintings. In addition, there is the Center for Feminist Art. A great place to visit, besides the Museum building (except for the ugly modern glass entranceway addition) is glorious. Come out to Brooklyn.

“Very nice way to spend a cold day!”

We went to see the "Dinner Party" the Judy Chicago instillation at the museum. It was as wonderful as we expected. We enjoyed several other exhibits as well. The Cafe had a very nice menu, and it felt good to sit in the sun!

“Terrific art”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

We had some time after a trip to LaGuardia airport (only about half an hour away) and before a trip in to Broadway in Manhattan. This made for a great afternoon. It is a beautiful and well-executed museum. The Egypt collection is incredible. There is free parking on the street.

“Not worth it”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Go check it out on first Saturday when it's free and more of a party than a museum, though this is a pretty crap museum. If you're not a local with time to kill after visiting the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, don't waste your time. There is plenty more to see during your trip to the Big Apple.
