I guess I was spoiled by the Metropolitan Museum of Art--but this museum did not live up to its description of being one of the best museums in North America. The caferia was disappointing too--not many fresh choices and a very bleak atmosphere.

Not to often one can visit a museum a leave thoroughly entertained and well informed, one such place is the Brooklyn Museum.

Its knowledgeble and friendly staff should be commended for their level of enthusiasm and professionalism.

The venue is centrally located adjacent the Eastern Parkway and boast of adjacent properties such as the Botanical Gardens and Prospect Park.

We went there early September and expected a high quality of all collections based on reviews and tour guides. This is certainly the case for the Assyrian and Egyptian rooms. But European art is a modest display with few top pieces. Also the modern art collection is modest with not the best Hopper or Segal. Only the dinner party by Judy Chicago is top. Fortunately we could enjoy the Brooklyn heights in the evening....

We traveled from Westchester to this gem of a museum and it was well worth it. You have to check what the current exhibit is because it is a small place but they do things right. The outside of the building is special and one is reminded that at one time Brooklyn was a city separate from the other boroughs of NY. We went to see a specific exhibit and it was displayed perfectly. I did not have a chance to see the entire museum but I am sure based upon what I saw that there are more good things to see there.
