I was looking forward to seeing many exotic flowers & plants such as I've seen at other botanical gardens but that was not to be. However the grounds were pleasant and I'm sure there's something for everyone. I guess you could spend a whole day there relaxing! Sadly we didn't visit in the right season to see the cherry blossom which must be spectacular and the roses were almost all dead and not dead headed which wasn't very attractive. I'll visit again but will choose the season carefully.

Each season and each month offer special surprises and beauty. The goldfish pond has year around serenity, the Lilly ponds are divine, the collections in the Victorian glass domes are gems. It is a pleasure to walk through and be recharged by the beauty of the gardens.

We went on a Saturday morning, which is free. You can use the New York Pass at other times. The gardens are a lovely green, tranquil space with many areas of much 'prettiness'. The gate for the Japanese Garden is very picturesque, with many photo opportunities. The lily ponds were in full bloom and looked beautiful. The Shakespeare Garden was interesting and unexpected. Sadly, we had limited time there and I would have liked to have walked all around the site, but that was not possible. There is a very adequate café and a very good gift shop, with lots of Botanical related things for gifts. Their map is also very useful. At present the entrance nearest the subway is closed for reconstruction, so there is a short walk around the outside of the site to the side gate. Well worth a trip out of Manhattan.

Small in size for a botanical garden, especially compared to the much larger one in Bronx. Nicely laid out with a rose garden, a Shakespeare Garden which specializes in the plants mentioned in Shakespeare's works, a Bonzai garden, etc. It was not possible to enjoy our picnic lunch in the garden, as it was forbidden to consume food from outside. The small Cafetaria had expensive sandwiches. A pleasant place to spend an hour or two.
