My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while on a land tour of Alaska. The hotel is a little dated. The carpets were a bit worn and stained and there was caramel corn under our bed. The bathroom had some grunge in the corners. However, the room we were in was spacious and the bathroom towels were decent. The hotel restaurant was very good. You could walk a few blocks away to find other places to eat, shopping, and a beautiful river walk with a charming fountain.

My husband & I stayed here two nights when we travelled with a Holland America land tour. The accommodations were nice with a sitting area, king-size bed, and typical hotel bathroom. The walls were thin and a family with children were staying in the room next door so at times it was noisy. We used the fitness room, but the equipment was either old or not in working order. Definitely not up to par for a hotel of this size and very disappointing!! We had two meals in the hotel's restaurant, which were very good. The hotel had two computers in their lobby for guests to use. Internet service was extremely slow. The gift shop had a nice selection of souvenirs and a breakfast snack bar, which was a less expensive alternative to the hotel restaurant.

Just stayed here for 2 nights as part of a cruisetour. Thought the room is spacious with 2 TVs , kitchen, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine. Office desk with internet connection ( I used free Wi-Fi and have no problem connecting in the room and it is acceptable speed).
Comfortable bed, window shutters worked fine to darken room. In the 700 block (floor) area, reading other reviews I am not sure if this is one of the renovated ones but certainly seemed pleasantly update and not old looking.
As mentioned it is being used a lot by cruising passengers but I would not have a problem even traveling here as a non-cruise guest. Reason being : granted certain time of day (primarily 7-9am) it was crowded with people around lobby area and extremely busy but the efficiency most of these cruiselines moving large volume of people in and out of hotel and having the luggages being left outside of rooms (instead of all in the lobby) prevented even more overcrowding. By 9am the lobby resumed back to normal quietness when most guests have gone on their day trip or departed to other destinations. Front office staff are friendly, helpful and professional.
Dinning room in a small town is adequate, not expecting a huge varieties of choices, just to fill stomach up and on with the day.
There are restaurants that are within 10 minutes walking distance and neighborhood seemed very pleasant and I have done that without feeling unsafe.
There are 2 internet computers in lobby and a weigh scale which is a nice touch.
Have not stayed at any other hotels in area so no comparison. But overall I feel it is a very decent hotel (whether it is owned by Holland America or not doesnt matter to me) and does it job quite well of moving large number of people in and out.

Of the three Westmark Hotels I stayed at in Alaska (the others being Sitka and Anchorage), this was the nicest of the three. The rooms looked to have been recently renovated and had shutters on the window to block out the light during the summer nights. As I had a very full itinerary while in Fairbanks, I only ended up sleeping there for four hours, so it was an in and out stay. While the location is relatively central to downtown Fairbanks - there is not much to downtown Fairbanks so if you have your own transport then staying in other locations wouldn't pose problems. This hotel caters to cruise travelers, no doubt for side trips from the southern cruise ports up through Denali National Park. The hotel definitely does have the group tour feel about it and not really geared to individual travelers.

Room Tip: Stay in the main hotel tower, not the adjacent wing which looked a lot older.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as a part of our Alaskan cruisetour with Holland America (which owns the hotel). The accommodations are certainly adequate, but nothing special. We could not get the drapes in our room completely closed, making it light in our room 24 hours a day. Used glassware was not exchanged for clean, even when we left a note on the desk with the dirty glasses asking for clean ones. At certain times of the day there is lots of activity in the lobby, due to tour groups arriving and departing. The breakfast buffet is overpriced and provides a modest variety of largely tasteless foods. I would not likely book this hotel on my own.

Room Tip: Ask for the north tower.

This is a beautiful hotel but their Heating and AC can only do one or the other and they are slow about changing. It was over 80 degrees in our 8th floor room and they only had the Heating option available. Windows could not be opened. They had two fans in the room so obviously this is a common problem. Friends on the 4th floor said they could open a window so were comfortable so that might be a work around. Otherwise the room was enormous with a small kitchen area, nice bed and comfortable chairs. We were on a Cruise/Tour with HAL so didn't pick the hotel or the room.

Room Tip: In June get a room with a window that opens
