I have been to Fairbanks several times and always had good time and good food at the pump house. Nice place to eat with friends or just have. My brother called me last summer to ask where his fire fighting crew could get a meal in Fairbanks. The Pump House of course!

“Great dinner, Average brunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

I really wanted to try reindeer on my trip to Alaska, and saw that The Pump House had Rudolph on the menu-OK, sustainably farmed reindeer, not Rudolph. We made a reservation for what turned out to be a crazy busy Saturday night. The hostess was somewhat frazzled and seemed unhappy when we asked for a different table when seated next to a busy busing area, but after cordial prodding, she put us at a table in a quiet corner. Not a great start, but our server, Margaret, quickly put us back in a mellow mood by providing excellent, cordial service. I had a great house featured raspberry martini that was yum while my partner enjoyed an excellent draft beer from the local brewery. Our shared salad arrived quickly and Margaret brought an extra plate without being asked. Our entrees arrived shortly after we finished the salad, and both were wonderful- the reindeer perfectly cooked, and my partner's salmon likewise. The accompanying veg and mashed sweet potatoes were also spot on. We both agreed the meal lived up to advanced billing, and although it wasn't cheap, it was comparable to any fine dining in the lower 48.
We liked it so much, we went back for Sunday brunch the next day. The brunch was more traditional, without the local featured items on the dinner menu, and although it was good, it was nothing super special. Service was not as top notch as the night before, but we still enjoyed the local atmosphere at the Pump House, and would recommend it for dinner.

we arrived as a group of 13 on time for our pre-arranged reservation at the Pump House Restaurant (where I have eaten good meals in the past) -- they not only did not have our reservation but made NO effort to accommodate the group even in smaller parties and insisted they could do nothing
sorry to say- that for a tour operator who has used their restaurant for many years, they could not bother to get this reservation right ---we enjoyed a delicious meal at WOLF RUN instead!

“Overprice, average food quality”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

Went there after Ice Park at the evening. When we got there, the restaurant was about to cut off to serve dining room customers. The menu items were not cheap, it ranged from $7-12 for appetizers, $25 above for entree. Overall our bill was $75 when including 2 appetizers, 1 tea, 1 main entree and desert. You got the idea. Personally I will not go back to the restaurant because the food quality was not matched up with their high prices.

“Excellent food, interesting decor.”

We had dinner here and enjoyed it very much. I had the bbq ribs (the smaller serving is plenty) and my wife had salmon that was accommodatingly prepared for her special dietary needs. Service was good.
