Felt sophisticated, more big city than usual Alaska. Food was very good. A little pricey. It is located in downtown Fairbanks

“Hand down, "the best place in town that feels and tastes like fine dining...."”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

Our family stayed at the Marriott SpringHill Suites, and we spent our first dinner-night eating here after arriving Fairbanks that late-afternoon. We saw a lot of happy faces enjoying their drinks at the restaurant's outdoor-patio. We didn't have the reservations for the evening but walked right-in, and they seated us right away. the place looked super-clean, very bright,(it was past 9pm, & the sunlight was glaring inside), and the ambiance was pleasant. Our table was right next to a giant decorative wine-glass on a corner floor.
We were highly impressed by our waiter, Paolo, who very graciously first greeted us and seemed quite ''a debonaire gentleman" throughout the evening. Tired after an evening hike along the Chena river, we were famished. It was as if, Paolo could read our minds that we can't wait too long for the food and he was ready to take our order without insisting on "the usual", on drinks...... Not to mention their wine selection is ooh la la outstanding.
Anyway, we started off with Pita-parmesan & Arugula-dip and a black bean soup. These appetizers came faster than we expected, and it also smelled & tasted delish. It gave me craving for a virgin mary. Paolo gladly brought me the drink "after" the appetizers. He made sure he asked first whether I would like salt cyrstals on my glass-rim. It was again, without saying a word, as if he knew, I would like my drink, neither too salty, nor excessively spicy. He made the drink just perfect for my palate. Very rarely, you encounter such respect & politeness from waiters in a busy-buzzing restaurants at dinner-time.
Our Entrees were perfectly proportioned, very succulent, nor overdone and met our expectations in taste. My son said the Halibut, on skewers !! were delicious.
Bottomline, it's hard to find many places that stands out for both excellence in service and good food, but Lavelle's in our opinion was at par with any fine dining restaurant.

“Excellent restaurant in Fairbanks”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We spent 3 days in Fairbanks and fortunately discovered Lavelle's. Food was very good including a fresh salmon with a light pesto sauce (best prepared salmon I had in the 3 weeks we spent in Alaska). 2 Lighter fare items that were also ordered and enjoyed were the Beef tips( great value) at 14.95 and the Mini rack of lamb at 16.95, both were plenty unless you are a big eater. Our waiter was great and told us about some local sights and a great restaurant for breakfast. Probably took a little long to get our food but over all a great experience. If you order an expensive bottle of wine or crab legs you could have a sizeable check. But there are plenty of other items to choose from that won"t break the bank.

“Excellent food and service but you will pay for it.”
Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

Great food and atmosphere but this place will definitely break the bank (especially if you order from their extensive wine list). Have not had any bad dishes in the two times I've eaten here but last time we went they were out of our favorite wine. The server recommended a replacement which was not nearly the same. Overall, a solid choice for a nice night out.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our food and atmosphere! I'm sorry, however, that we were out of your preferred wine, and you didn't find the other recommendation to be a comparable one. We know how individual everyone's wine palates are, so I hope you'll forgive us this little blip and let us impress you again soon. I know we can again!

“A gem in Fairbanks”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We visited Fairbanks as part of a land tour offered by Princess Cruise Line. We were staying at the Princess Riverside Lodge for 2 nights and decided to take a shuttle into downtown Fairbanks and have dinner there on the second night. We chose Lavelle's based on the reviews in TripAdvisor. The food was excellent. We both had pistachio-crusted halibut that we loved. The restaurant was surprisingly crowded but we had called for a reservation and were seated quickly. The service was first rate. It was an altogether enjoyable experience.
