I hate to say but the food here was awful - we had traditional Thai dishes from apps to dinner and the results were the same - noodles were horrible, rice was the worst ever and the chicken was made a long time ago and then reheated (very dry) - I would recommend going anywhere else - the service was also "not so much".

This trip to Fairbanks we ate at three Thai restaurants for lunch and Sweet Basil was our least favorite. It is next to Prospector, so we gave it a try.

We had a pretty good Coconut soup, and a fair Chicken with Basil dish. The flavors of the food were subdued, short on fish sauce and other Thai flavors and spices. If you are new to Thai cuisine this place might be a good choice.

Of the three, this was the least expensive and a good value for lunch.

Some friends who now live in Thailand for two-thirds of the year recommended Sweet Basil as the best Thai restaurant in Fairbanks. We were not disappointed! The cashew chicken is delicious as was the peanut chicken. I wish I could remember the Thai names for the entrees but it really doesn't matter since the menu gives excellent descriptions of the various dishes. We asked for mild but probably could have handled medium spiciness. I had the Thai tea as my beverage - yum! It also helps cut the heat if you order a spicy dish. The atmosphere is simple with a family-run friendliness and great service.

The food was good and the lunch service was very fast. The menu has quite a range of choices and a couple of additional specials are offered as well. We like that it is nice and quiet with no TV blaring, which seems to be the norm these days. They have put effort into the decor even though it is in an older building. Prices are reasonable.

Small dining room. Great curries. Drunken noodle is the best anywhere. In winter, sit away from the door to avoid chilly drafts when the door opens!
