Owner description: Thousands of visitors each year get a chance to see muskoxen, caribou and domestic reindeer on summer tours of this 134-acre site set up for nutritional, behavioral and physiological study by the University of Alaska.

Perhaps this is not fair - but we did the drive up and look and saw nothing over the hills. We were thus not inspired to take a tour and moved on. It may help to keep some inviting wildlife near the parking area to give visitors incentive to look and enter.

The literature said you could see the oxen from the parking lot, but we never did. We checked a few times and finally got there before one of the tours and paid to be escorted farther down the field. The guide was very knowledgable and we saw the babies plus the reindeer and caribou. We were frustrated that you could not take photos without the fencing being in the way.

When we stopped by, it was closed, but we could use binoculars to see bison and caribou in pens up the hill. I think kids would really enjoy this stop.

Nice layout, you can see the animals but you need to pay for the tour to actually get up close, although we were within a few feet of the Caribou/Reindeer. The Musk Oxen were not as close but were visible in the distance. Quite a layout and easy to find especially if you pick up a Fairbanks map at the Cultrual and Visitor's Center first.
