nice to visit, really not anything different than any other garden, but a calming place and people are friendly.

Located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, easy to get to and a small donation to get in. Most of the gardens are tended by volunteers. They're just beautiful from the first bloom until September.

We visited in 2011 and the University in general and the gardens in particular are having major funding cutbacks. We were disappointed. The plant beds were not well maintained and there really was not much tosee.

I just missed the peony bloom in the last week of July. It would have been fun to have seen the bloom in early July when we usually have ours in May. I was SHOCKED at not seeing one butterfly our time there. We did see many dragonflies in the area however. There is construction for a children's garden and maze that looks like it will be nice once finished. I do not know the target completion date. There is a small store that I purchased some seeds as a souvenir that I will try to grow next spring. No one monitors the suggest fee box where they recommend a $2.00 entry fee. There are maps of the gardens that show beds but not particular flowers. I did not see any staff to ask if you didn't know. The parking was informal like at a farm. Gravel/grass. We spent 1.5 hours total.

Thank enlightenment
