After reading all the negative reviews I really wasn't expecting much BUT we were pleasantly surprised to find a great hotel that was comfortable, clean, had a great atmosphere, had very helpfull staff and fantastic views from the outdoor eatery balconey. We were also overjoyed that the restaurant , both inside and out had a substancial GLUTEN FREE MENU with heeps of choice that I didn't get at DENALI Princess Lodge. We had a very comfy bed and made use of the bus service into town. Everyone was helpful and great. We can't wait to go back!!! It was a great end to a fantast trip up the inside passage to Alaska.

The lodge has nice rooms, good restaurants and plenty of activities. Restaurants offered a good variety of meals and selections. Service was good but not great. We did several excursions from here and all were very good. Hummer tour was informative and agood experience- off roading is pretty good in Alaska. Discovery River Boat and Gold Dredge was extremely informative, and a really good experience.

Room Tip: some rooms have good views - however not so important as all of Alaska is a view

Where to begin with such an unbelievable experience! This hotel is equivalent to a cheap Motel ,very worn, shoddy interior, saggy beds, towels so thin and somewhat grey. Our phone was missing the dial plate, so how do you know what the call system is? There was no room for a suitcase other than by the door, so beware you don't trip trying to get to the bathroom. Our view was of a parking lot, the very last rooms on the first floor. Amazing, as we were on a Princess cruise/tour and we are loyal Princess clients..wow! The beds were two double beds and we request king and the front desk was not helpful at all, other than, maybe tomorrow night we will have another room, we were only there 2 nights, what good is that. The room had no paper, no pen, no information as most of this caliber should have.
The AC did not work, and we couldn't open the window as it was first floor, with the parking lot out there. Almost impossible to sleep it was so hot.
When we got to our rooms, our friends were in the room next door, there was a dirty napkin outside their door by the hall...still there the next day.
Now - to the food. The breakfast buffet is 14.99..and when they run out that is it. I asked for pancakes.sorry, we are out! Did you ever see danish cut in half?Fruit, most of it was gone...too bad. No English muffins...and the service is definitely lacking. The second day a nice waiter did go and get me a pancake to go with my sausage. For dinner our last night I ordered a hamburger without a roll, just cheese and sauteed onions on it. When it came I tried to cut it..could not cut it..I turned it over and it was burned black and solid. The manager did come over to take it back to the kitchen.
This was our second hotel on a 14 day cruise/tour..definitely not a good feeling. And this hotel.. definitely not a friendly, happy experience.

Room Tip: Don't know if there are any.

We stayed here for2 nights the last of Aug. The room was very clean(#1) but was VERY basic. No fridge or microwave which is pretty much a standard in all hotels today. Very large lodge but pretty easy to get around. Food in dining room was good(very fresh).Stay away from the lobby when they're loading busses. They need a gathering area OTHER than the lobby! The grounds around lodge were kept up. Views were nice! Not much to do around lodge so for small fee you can catch a shuttle and go into Fairbanks and look around. If you do check out Big Daddys Bbq!

We stayed here 2 night and what a disappointment this was, we thought it was a loder and it was a motel of sorts, very busy and people are passing through. The room 215 was so hot even with air conditioning on the room never cooled down, we overlooked the service road where deliveries where arriving through the night and the generators you could here all night long not a place to sleep. The room was very depressing, the bedding seemed as if it had not been changed from the previous occupants and had a greasy smell, the towels where grey and one of the hand towels was ripped. We where glad to leave this place and go to the airport as it was not a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: would not recommend this place

Four of us were on a recent 11 day Cruise/Tour with Princess and this hotel was our first land stop. The hotel (not buying the Lodge moniker) is well worn, especially the rooms in which I agree with many other posters is of quality less then Princess advertizes.

The room did not look or smell clean however our larger issue was an extremely slow drain in the sink. My wife called maintenance unclog the drain then she had to call housekeeping to reclean the bathroom. No calls from Mgmt to inquire as to our satisfaction.

Pros: Organization and scheduling of guests on tour was close to perfect. We appreciated not having to check in upon our arrival as everything needed (room keys etc) was given to us ahead of time. All parts from baggage handling to transportation extremely well handled.
Cons: The drain issue and room cleanliness. The bed mattress and frame had years of use and abuse and was very uncomfortible as well.

If not for being on a Princess tour we would not have stayed at this facility. We are planning to go back to Alaska in the next couple years and will select a more satisfactory venue.

I was extremely disappointed in this hotel. The rooms and public rooms are nothing special. I could have been in any chain hotel anywhere. The service in the restaurants was poor -- in fact, one visit was bad enough that we wrote out a comment card to complain about our server. Food was okay but nothing special. We needed to use the laundry which turned into a long walk to another section of the hotel. It was small and very busy. Thank goodness we had asked about getting change at the front desk before we made the trek.

There was nothing wrong with the hotel itself but it was just much less than what I expected from Princess.
