“Nice Hotel, Good Location, Average Rooms.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

This was the last stop on our Cruise/Land tour with Princess. After traveling for over a week and a half, we were exhausted and were looking for a good nights rest.....we did not get it. The hotel is large, nice lobby, very busy with people coming and going because of the flights coming in and out of Fairbanks at all hours. Our room was in the old section of the hotel. The room was very large and had a great view of the river. Like all other Princess Hotels, the room was very sparse, but clean. The problem was our room was on the third floor right next to the stairs and there was a main water line for the heating/cooling system running right up through the corner of our room. It sounded like someone was taking a shower full blast in the room. We called down for maintenance before we realized what it was. Maintenance was there within 20 minutes, the guy was so nice and apologetic, he said they get complaints for this section of the hotel all the time. There was nothing they could do about it and there were no other rooms available. They did compensate us with 2 free breakfasts.

Another minor issue, we were checking out later that our itinerary suggested, so we told the front desk we would not be checking out at 3:00 am more like 11:00 am. They said no problem. We thought everything was fine, until housekeeping was knocking on our door at 8:00 am (even with the DND on the door). Luckily we weren't sleeping anyway because of the water issue. The housekeeper was so apologetic and said we were on the list that had checked out early....that's kind of why we told the front desk....oh well.

One very nice thing, we were staying in Fairbanks for another 4 days for a family reunion over at the Hampton Inn. When we checked out, they offered to take us over to the other hotel with their shuttle, that was great and very helpful!

Room Tip: Nice Location, Average Rooms.

We stayed here 2 night at the start of a Princess Land Tour and Cruise vacation. Location on the river was nice. Our room was fine, but I thought it might be a bit better than it was. It was clean and the bed comfortable. Many people here of course and service was fine, but not personable at all in my opinion. Not sure I would stay here if not part of our vacation package. Over all just fine, with no problems.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor, but would check out higher up and with a view if possible or even availa...

This lodge was on our Princess tour of Alaska and out of the four lodges we stayed at we were only disappointed in this one. The setting is pretty much in the city and it kind of reminded us of a Motel 6 (Nothing against Motel 6, but if you have stayed you know what I mean, very basic). You are pretty much out of the city. The staff also gave a feeling that it was just a job, not what we experienced at the other Lodges. If possible I would highly recommend skipping this lodge.

The "lodge" was just okay -- nothing special. It's a bit of a misnomer to call it a lodge, as it's a fairly large and typical hotel. Although it sits right on the river, there is pretty limited access via walking trails which is a real shame because the hotel is not really close to anything (except the airport). On-site food options are good, but not great and you're really limited as far as anything else is concerned unless you have a car. Still, not a disaster by any means. Just okay.

We enjoyed our brief stay here - great scenery. Wonderful hotel and food and gift shop was so nice! Another good Princess experience. The river out in front is beautiful - gorgeous setting for weary travellers!

Room Tip: Enjoyed our suite with a view of the river!

Here is the skinny on the Princess Riverside Lodge. It's just an average hotel. You probably don't have a choice if you are completing a land tour or starting one with Princess Cruise lines. Expect an average room with few amenities, no wifi (yes they have advertising they have it for over a year and it does not exist), don't expect the front desk to be to helpful, they know you are there for 24-48 hours, the tour desk is where you can get help. The restaurant is good. However, it is designed for salesmen on an expense account. Pricey! OK, what is good? The hotel is 10 minutes from the airport and a shuttle is provided.. check in at tour desk. For a close relaxing local, you can exit from the backside of the hotel property and be at Pike's Landing in 5 minutes. Sit on the patio over looking the river and enjoy a dinner and drinks. There is a $5.00 (round trip) shuttle that will take you downtown Fairbanks, or Fred Meyer's Dept. Store or to another hotel, and runs on a schedule. Use it to go out to eat, shop etc. Downtown is not big, but there are several really nice restaurants and bars and shops. If you are fortunate to be there on Monday between July and September, don't miss the open air market next to the 'log cabin' downtown. We enjoyed Fairbanks downtown, and the Riverboat cruise. Just remember the 'lodge' is just a place to sleep for the night.. enjoy the city, people and surrounding..

We stayed here on the first nights of our land tour with Princess. It is a nice hotel, on the river. The lobby and restaurant areas are decorated like a lodge, and are very nice. We had a dinner in the restaurant, which was good. Great soup. There is no breakfast provided, and the restaurants on site offer a buffet and menu choices. We were satisfied with coffee and yogurt from the little store in the hotel, which saved us a little money.
