“Riverside is nice”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We stayed here on Memorial Day weekend, and winter had not left long before. There were still frozen sewer lines so there were only electric hookups. They did have laundry; restroom and shower facilities but still needed the ground to thaw for services on site. Wifi and cable TV were fine. Sites are nicely divided by trees and shrubs, but if you have multiple slideouts, you need to watch the trees. Staff is friendly – we changed our reservation, leaving after two days and coming back after two more and they switched it around no problem. Campground is on the Chena River – provides entertainment in warm weather with boaters and floaters on the river. A restaurant is within walking distance with good food. Close to downtown attractions.

We spent the night there in May and it was a very pleasant stay. The lady at the front desk was very helpful in recommending great things to do while in Fairbanks. The room was nice and clean and sitting on the edge of the river reading made it a great unwind to the end of a busy day. We got a recommedation to have breakfast at the Cookie Jar restaurant and it was a great one. Loved our time in Fairbanks. We also tried the Pumphouse for dinner and that was a big success too.

Room Tip: The rooms on the rivers edge are an extra 25 bucks but I think that it would be worth it.

Three of us stayed here for two nights in a two double bed cabin. We arrived after 35 hours travelling a little after midnight. Our pick-up from the hotel arrived in about 15 minutes. The girl on reception was rather bored and barely indicated where we should find our cabin, which was 123. The bathroom was quite small, with the handbasin in the bedroom. The shower was a bit tricky to use.
Breakfast the next morning was excellent, a great variety.
The grounds of the hotel were very colourful with hanging baskets and beds of flowers. It is right beside the Chena River, and on our last morning we had a walk by the river before getting our bus onwards. We were on a package holiday.

Room Tip: Some of the cabins are a distance from the reception, but ours - 123 - was quite near.

Stayed here twice in August 2012…once our first night in AK, and then again for two nights when we finished an Arctic Circle tour. First time we checked in the front desk was wonderful. Second time we checked in, the front desk staff was rude and dismissive. After waiting in line for a good fifteen minutes, I was greeted by the clerk at the front desk with a curt demand for a voucher instead of hello, welcome or good day….just “Voucher?”. I probably could have handled it a bit better, but I replied, “No, our last name is ____” instead of digging out the voucher to which she was referring. Maybe that is why she refused to let us check in early but allowed the cruise passengers behind us to check in. Or, maybe the hotel caters more to traveling cruisers than other tourists. All I know is that we sat for a bit in the lobby while I called the tour company I was working with and as soon at that tour company called the front desk, a room became available for us.
Grounds of the hotel were wonderful, the cabins were charming on the exterior. Interiors were clean and perfectly adequate. The patios and lawns were a great place for the kids to get a little separation from the parents. Breakfast at the hotel is expensive (even by AK standards) and underwhelming. We walked the mile or so to the nearby Fred Meyer and found a few great food stands (the Ka Rob bbq truck was fantastic and moderately priced) close by to get food on our own…which we brought back and enjoyed on the patio.

What a lovely surprise awaited us at the end of a 14 hour travel day--a beautifully decorated private cottage on a curving street of the same. Each had variation in the color of trim and the huge hanging floral baskets that hung from each eave, Behind each cottage is a patio whose privacy is bolstered by well tended hedges. Two Queen-sized beds with comfortable mattresses and plump pillows and beautifully coordinated bedding-floral, striped and solid filled the room without being crowded. There was plenty of storage for clothing and personal items. The bathroom was spotless with plenty of hot water. The property was well landscaped with rosebushes and other garden plants. Lighting along the paths was provided by old-fashioned gas-light style lamps. The main building, which provides services and information, is lovely and two breakfast buffets are available in the diningroom. On the night we arrived the shuttle driver had become ill so we were instructed to take a taxi from the airport for which we were promptly reimbursed. Any hotel can run into a problem but it is the way they deal with it that proves their dedication to the wellfare of their patrons. The property is bordered by the Chena River and boasts a very nice restaurant with a dining deck over-looking the water. My husband and I totally enjoyed our three day stay.

Room Tip: You are able to request a room/cottage that faces the River Walk. We did not know this when our res...

My wife and I stayed here on the nights of 5th and 6th of September. It was accommodation provide by Alaskan Tour and Travel and hit the spot. We had a small cabin Room 130, that had all we needed. The shuttle to town, (it is a little way out) was good for us to go in have a look around on our 3rd visit to Fairbanks. Their restaurant next door was nice.
