Review of Chatanika Lodge

Chatanika Lodge
Ranked #39 of 253 Restaurants in Fairbanks
Cuisines: American
Description: I am seeing some old reviews for this establishment, and the spelling on the old reviews is incorrect. The correct spelling is Chatanika, [not "Chatinika"]. I was wondering why nothing came up when I searched for ChatAnika, and then I realized why. I would like to post a positive review for the restaurant and the owners, but I think it would be helpful to have the correct spelling entered first so people who are searching for it can find it. Thank you.

Took a second trip to the Fairbanks/Cleary Summit area February 2012, and made sure to stop again (twice) at the Chatanika Lodge restaurant.

Had a delicious fish 'n' chips meal while enjoying the colorful, rustic surroundings and chatting with local folks at the counter. This is definitely a place worth seeing; bring your camera and be sure to staple a dollar bill to the wall (or ceiling, or post) to commemorate your visit.

Rustic Alaskana. Food is good, folks are 'real', surroundings are classic in every sense. Expect to see a snapshot of Alaska as it was from the '50s to the oil boom, but not something "sanitized" for tourists. This is the real deal. Don't miss it. Bring your appetite and your camera.

Decided to stop here on my last morning in the area. Had a most enjoyable time talking with one of the owners, Shirley, and a couple of other local folks at the counter. We talked over breakfast, which consisted of a *very* generous serving of french toast and bacon. Be sure to bring your camera. The year-round Christmas decorations, including sparkling snowflakes and icicles, are lovely. There are dollar bills--with visitors' names from all over the world--stapled to the ceiling, walls and pillars. On request, Shirley will give you a staple gun and you can meander through the restaurant to select a place to add your own dollar bill. There is plenty to see as you walk around including loads of interesting pictures, funny signs and other memorabilia. They also have a stage; hope to come back one day and catch a show. Definitely recommend!
