This may be the only place in the united states that you can walk around with, and PET, reindeer!!! Feeling these animals was indescribable- it felt like I was touching a part of the wilderness!!! Jane was a fountain of knowledge- it was so informational to hear her talk about the reindeer! She was super accommodating for my very young and
Boisterous children- bringing them cookies and reading them a children's book! I would rate this as must-do for Fairbanks (and this is coming from
Someone who lives in Fairbanks- we are
Not tourists!!!') hope you enjoy:-)

Our host Jane was very personable and interesting We learned a lot about reindeer and their social herd relationships, as well as how for humans to communicate with them. It was amusing learning how the five reindeer in her herd relate to each other, and how they vie for dominance. Her garden was also very interesting, not to mention delicious. Very glad we did this tour.

We visited one late morning in August and had an overall very good time. Our kids liked seeing and interacting with the reindeer, though the walk part was only a small part of the visit. Most of the time is spent talking around the property, and viewing and discussing the garden and greenhouse.

We did get to sample many of the vegetables from the garden and they were great! And after the short walk we talked on the porch and had fresh lemon-aid and home made cookies while the host discussed info about reindeer and discussed some books.

This is the kind of place where each visit will be unique. We had very good weather on our visit so that was nice.

The walk itself was around the reindeer pen (which is quite large), and one of the reindeer led the way though the others were not real interested in following along, so this was a little scattered. Our kids enjoyed seeing the reindeer up close and also the family dog.

We were here about 2 hours and that was plenty of time. I could see with a bigger group and if there are a lot of questions that it could take more than 2 hours though. Thanks for reading.

We spent a delightful afternoon seeing a Reindeer farm in Fairbanks. There were only two of us, and we were able to join with a few others who also were there, but the group was small. We learned about Reindeer, and their personalities up close and personal. While they wandered the area, we could follow, touch, and learned about the raising of the animals. Jane, the owner, who is just delightful, also went into her garden and made us all a salad and dip from the freshly grown food, along with some fresh lemonade. This was a lot of fun. Jane was also competing with growing the largest cabbage against Mary Shields, of iditarod fame (check her out too), and it tied in the two visits nicely. I would not miss this experience. Thank you Jane!!

We found this experience to be truly unique. Jane is a wonderful host and great reindeer Mom.. The reindeer were a lot of fun and what an unusual experience to walk a reindeer..Lots of fun...at one point the reindeer were just kind of wandering off on their own through the forest, kind of scattered around..Jane called them by name..they looked up and came trotting over, just like dogs! So cute! Best part..Jane had us stand at the bottom of a small hill (holding still) and let the reindeer run down to us..what a thrill ride..they run right up to you full speed in a herd and then at the last second (literally) they turn and run past you! WOW!
After, we toured Jane's garden and yard, had "snacks" right from the garden..learned about life in Alaska. Jane treated us to cookies and lemonade, we visited with her and her husband Doug for probably a lot longer than they counted on. Great conversation, great cookies, great reindeer!
Thanks Jane!
