“Nice clean place, see the car museum!”
Reviewed July 19, 2009

Had never stayed here before was recommended by a Fairbanks local, I was pleasantly surprised how nice it turned out to be. The rooms are converted apartments with fully furnished suite amenities such as a kitchen, dining room, living room. Nice and clean, very comfortable. There is an incredible antique car museum on site that you must take time to see, it is way beyond what you would expect.

Like others, we were placed here rather than at the Princess Lodge for two nights at the the end of the cruise.
Our initial disappointment was swiftly erased by the very pleasant and helpful staff, the clean, large rooms and the flexibility in dining arrangments.
The Antique Auto Museium on site is quite remarkable and well worth a visit and the wildlife sanctuary is worth exploring. A free shuttle makes going into town very easy.
After seeing the Princess Lodge on the Chena River we were relieved and grateful for the fact that we were at Bear Lodge...it was a brilliant ending to a terrific holiday. I would definitely recmmend it.

I can't even begin to tell you all the negative unbelievable experiences had during my stay. They charge you $.25 per piece of paper in their business center, this is after you pay $150 per night to stay in the equvilency of an old age home. They wouldn't let me check in an hour early even though the place is empty. I asked very nicely if I could email a document to someone in their front office to have it printed (two pages), "no, we can't do that." Talk about no customer service!!!!! The place sucks, beware they own three or four other hotels here ans I'm sure they are just as bad.

We stayed 2 nights at the Bear Lodge @ the Wedgewood Resort in Fairbanks. (Were there for a drive/fly tour into Anaktuvuk Pass in Gates of the Arctic National Park). I had originally had reservations elsewhere, only to find out a couple of weeks beforehand that it went out of business. So I researched and found decent reviews on the Bear Lodge. When we arrived, they offered us an "upgrade" in one of their other buildings. However, there was construction going on and the upgraded room smelled of paint - so we opted to stay in the Bear Lodge in our original reserved room. There was no microwave/frig in the room, but they helped us out by bringing in a small frig. The staff was very nice. There are nice hiking trails on the property, an antique car museum, gift shops, etc. I don't believe any breakfasts are included, but they do have restaurants on site. We did not try those though. The room was great - very clean, quiet and comfortable. I loved the sliding glass door and little balcony area. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this one.

We stayed at the Bear Lodge for 2 nights at the beginning of our Princess cruise-tour. After reading some of the reviews, we were a little worried about staying there. We were very pleasantly surprised, however. We had nice, big rooms with no problems at all. The people were very friendly, the breakfast in the restaurant was good, and we had a great time.

  • Liked — newer, good sized rooms
  • Disliked — not really near a lot (we were on a tour, so we didn't care)

The Bear Lodge was very clean. Staff was helpful and very friendly. We ate lunch at the lodge and it was very good. After reading the other reviews I was nervous about staying here. We stayed 2 nights.

Stayed for one night as part of a Princess pre cruise land tour. We had hoped to be staying at the Princess Lodge but received confirmation about two weeks prior to the trip that we'd be staying here, disappointed.

During our transfer from the airport the coach driver described this lodge as an overspill hotel for the Princess lodge. Like a previous reviewer we were surprised to be stuck in an overspill hotel considering we had booked so far in advance.

We had problems straight away with our tour excursions and spent sometime trying to resolve this with the Princess staff based at the hotel, they needed a lot of prompting and pushing to sort it out however we got there in the end.

Sorry non cruise people about the start of the review if its not relavant to you but there are a lot of cruise people staying here.

Now for the hotel...

Our bedroom was big, clean and comfortable. Our only gripe was the inadequate Air Con. Being on the ground floor we couldn't leave the windows open.

The facilities were good and the staff friendly. We enjoyed the bar food.

We ate out at a local Salmon bake venue so cannot comment on dinner at the hotel. As to the location we didn't really have time to explore however we were told Downtown fairbanks was 5 minutes by cab.
