Regency Fairbanks Hotel

We as locals decided to stay at a hotel for a night to escape. Even as we checked in, the receptionist had an attitude. I really felt we were not welcome. That night, the toilet would not work. That was fun. Although we are smokers, we did our best to smoke outside. A few times, we did smoke in the bathroom with the fan on. The Regency is a non-smoking hotel.
The atmosphere of the whole place was bad. We never felt welcome. They made us feel second class. The restaurant is in the cold basement. The prices were outrageous.
After check out and a few days later, we find Regency has stolen $100 from our bank account for a smoking charge. So... one lousy stay at a fourth rate worn out hotel cost us $219.05.
We will never, ever stay at this hotel again. And being locals and knowing lots of people, we will run off by not recommending as many guests they could have had.
In fact, we checked out of this place and stayed the next night at the Westmark Hotel. That place was awesome and we highly recommend it. It is even on the same street, (10th Ave.) not two blocks down, not out of your way and costs less. The restaurant was great. We KNOW you will have a better stay at the Westmark Hotel.
I do not expect this review to stay. As I expect they pick and choose only good reviews to post. I have copied this content and am posting it everywhere I can. The economy is bad enough. I am tired of being ripped of.

We are a non smoking hotel to ensure all guest have a pleasant stay inside our rooms. Once someone smokes in a room it requires us to take the room offline for 24-48hrs and we are unable to rent the room. We also must Ozone and purifiy the air which is an expense process.
We have a signed copy of your guest check-in letter that states you will be charged$100 if you smoke in your room. Which you admitted yo doing in your letter.

Any guest reading this response please read all our reviews before making a decision. Or better yet, give us a try and I'm sure we will please you.

We drove up from Healy to Fairbanks and found the hotel without any problems. We arrived late and check-in was easy, although the young woman at the desk did not seem very motivated. The room (nr212) was big and clean & had a nice size kitchenette, but smelled like something wet had been left in the room for a long time. The carpet actually looked very newly shampooed, so we thought that maybe it was just not dry under the beds or something. We even left the screened window open to try to get rid of the smell. The smell was even stronger by the bed next to the window. By next morning, it was downright nasty in the room, so I requested to be moved, or the room to be cleaned and dried, or something. A different young lady at the desk informed me that the hotel is full. IF this happens to you, be persistent, because there is aways a room. The gal talked to an older colleague and moved us to the handicapped room on the same floor. Wow!! what a difference that made. The smell was gone. This room was also clean, as was the smelly one, the appliances were clean as were the fixtures and bathroom. The beds were comfortable enough, but the pillows were nice and cushy. The hotel itself is super warm, so we did not need the heater at all, in fact some had their windows open. The breakfast was OK, we've had worse, but when someone broke their waffle maker, they did not have another one to replace it, and just left the batter on the counter. Check-out was easy, and we liked that they ask if you want to leave the charges on your card or if you want to pay by another method. We would stay there again, but not in room 212.

This hotel was wonderful for the price. The front lobby staff was exceptional...great service. While pricey, the restaurant and bar were great, the food was great and the wait staff was phenomenal. The rooms were large and clean. Although the room was a bit outdated, it had a full size refrigerator, a microwave and dishes. It is the perfect hotel to stay at while exploring Fairbanks and the surrounding area. I would definately stay here again.

We spent a week here and enjoyed it very much. The staff are very nice, willing to help with questions and directions. The rooms are self contained and very comfortable. They supply tea, coffee, clean towels & toiletries every day as needed and do a full cleaning service twice weekly, so the room was very clean. They also offer a limited car rental service at a very reasonable cost ,when they have cars available. We did have to wait a day for ours, but it's only approx a 10 minutes walk to downtown from this hotel so it wasn't a drama. The only minor problem was that they were having problems with their internet setup and people were having a problem staying connected with their laptops in their rooms. This could be overcome by using their internet connection in the lobby.
Overall a great place to stay and i would stay here if we ever get to Fairbanks again.

Had a pleasant two night stay at the Regency Fairbanks. The outside looks modern in a 1960's way, but the interior was what I would call "old-fashioned". Reminded me of the large, old hotels in Atlantic City, pre-casinos, with the hallway and public space decor. We had a a large queen bedroom, and a sitting room/kitchenette area. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub with nice toiletries. Free wireless and coffee maker.

The hotel is out of the way from any restaurants and/or shopping but if you have a car those places are a short drive. We made the mistake of eating at the hote's buffet breakfast on our first morning. Overpriced, limited selection of generic breakfast food. And, I believe, INSTANT COFFEE, rather than brewed. Certainly tasted like it to me!! In a state where it's possible to get fabulous locally roasted coffees it is a crime to serve that swill.
The second morning we drove to the main downtown shopping district and had breakfast at a wonderful little diner in a small shopping mall for much less money.

I would stay here again.

Friendly hotel staff. Room was clean and had a full kitchen, although only enough place settings for two.

Stayed at the Regency Fairbanks in August 2007. With the excep-
tion of not having safe-deposit boxes at the front desk (surprising-
the staff offered to put my belongings in a lockbox but I declined)everything else about this property was superb with a considerably lower rate than the other downtown hotels. I was picked up at the
Alaska Railroad station by the hotel van and a few minutes later arrived at the hotel-consists of three floors in a residential area
approx. 12 short blocks from the heart of downtown so there no
noise issues to worry about. The lobby is actually two separate
rooms - a large sitting area by the entrance with stuffed animals
and portraits of frontier Alaska. The lobby proper has the front desk
and a computer room-library- game room in back for relaxing and catching up on E-mail. Also, a very welcome plus is a sundeck on the third floor where one can talk, relax have a drink. The rooms are among the best I've seen at any hotel - mine came with two lagre beds(among the most comfortable I have ever slept in) a work desk, bureau and a TV hanging on the wall. The furnishings were a bit retro in appearance but this is not a bad thing, especially when the room is so immaculate and comfortable. The restaurant (in the basement level but brightly decorated with aquariums on the walls;nice touch!) served excellent food - ample breakfasts and delicious dinners (had dinner there twice) at better prices than other downtown locations. The service at the restaurant, and indeed througour the entire hotel was perfect, with everyone most cour- teous and accomodating - one of the staff even volunteered to drive me to and from a couple of tourist attractions I would not have been able to reach without a car (unfortunately, the free city tourist shuttle had stopped ruuning for the season - you really need a car to reach the attractions outside the city center. The hotel's slightly out of the way location shiould not be an obstacle to staying here - the city blocks are short and taxis are reasonable should one need them. Or talk to the staff about a ride on the van;would'nt hurt! Should I ever return to Fairbanks the Regency would be my top hotel of choice. Wholeheartedly recommended!
