Absolutely beautiful way to see some of Alaska. We were on same train as next review. The weather was a little hotter than usual but it was uncomfortable when the a/c went out. The trains are very clean. Service was great. (Maybe they should have offered a free drink when it was hot like that - hellloooo management...) Our car eventually had the a/c restored but I heard the one behind us didn't. But I would definitely go on it again and will recommend it to others. Employees seemed knowledgeable about the small towns and kept the trip entertaining. Good deal: If you are on the 2 day trip buy the refillable bottle. Unlimited soda or ice tea. We saw eagles and lots of moose. Whole car really got into finding the wildlife. We took this train as part of a cruise tour. Food in dining car is available. They call so many people down to feed them and then call the next group. Everyone has a seat in upper dome car (atleast on our train cars - KNIK and TEKLANIKA ) bathrooms and dining is downstairs.

We rode the McKinley Explorer 2x - once from Fairbanks to Denali and several days later, from Denali to Anchorage. The seats are extremely comfortable and the views stunning. Both trips included narration, which was plentiful, but not intrusive. We saw lots of interesting sights - small towns, moose, bear, locals etc. My only complaint would be on the second leg. The air conditioning in our car was broken. And, the day was very, very sunny. It was unbearably hot inside our car and we were captive. Many of us crowded onto the tiny platform for fresh air. We jockeyed for space, which in itself was unpleasant. Never once did any of the staff make mention of the heat or broken a/c. They didn't say when, or if, the problem would be fixed. The didn't make an announcement to offer cold water. I guess this young crew thought the best way to handle this unpleasant situation was to ignore it. It would be helpful if the rail stations had luggage carts or porters. I had a heavy dufflebag that was difficult for me to maneuver. PS Bring a sandwich, or snacks, for the long ride to Anchorage.

The train was comfortable and there is an elevator inside for handicap access to the upper seating area. The staff was friendly and did a good job.
The upstairs windows provide lots of good viewing but are difficult for getting good pictures. You can go out on the outside platform between the cars, but its usually pretty crowded with people trying to do the same thing.
We ate breakfast on the train. A little overpriced and not huge portions of food, but it did taste good. Unfortunately the food was lukewarm at best.
We don't believe the $5 rail guide they were selling was worth the money but others around us found it interesting.

The food is good (but slow) but the views are AMAZING and the narration very interesting and adds so much to the trip. A terrific was to make the trip!
