“Pipeline & aurora viewing”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

This is the only public place where you can see the pipeline up close & personal. Also a good safe spot to pullover to view the aurora.

“pretty drive especially in fall!”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

colors of fall were spectacular! Beautiful drive! Hardly no traffic - so make sure you have full tank of gas!

“Amazing Scenic Highway”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

This year we traveled the stretch of highway from Circle to the put in of Birch Creek. The Scenery is amazing. The road is in poor condition though. Two years ago we did the stretch of highway from Fairbanks to the put in of Beaver Creek, the road is in much better shape.

When we were in the Town of Circle, we meet people in two cars who took a wrong turn, they thought they were going to the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Highway, but ended up in the town of Circle. Circle has no tourist facilities other than a General Store/liquor store/Gas station. No restaurant, no motel, no camp ground, but it has a nice view of the Yukon River.

“A nice drive”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We went about 40 miles down and returned sooner than we had planned as we had an early lunch, got very hungry, and headed back to Fairbanks. It's an easy drive and very scenic. Went back up about ten miles that night to try for an aurora display, but it didn't appear. The half moon put on a show for around 11:30. When it got above the trees, the terminator was absolutely vertical! Here in Tallahassee the terminator is always at an angle.

“expect road construction delays”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We only drove a short distance on the Steese highway but the part that we saw north of Fairbanks was not memorable other than a long delay and detour because of road reconstruction. On a very positive note, the flag person on the construction site, when asked how far the pipeline viewing area was, told us to pull out of line, bypass the stopped traffic and pull into our destination up the road.
