“Hidden gem with decent food.”
Reviewed April 26, 2013 via mobile

The worst part about dinner here is trying to find the entrance. The main dining room serves only Sunday brunch. Other meals are served in the cellar pub and small dining room adjacent to the courtyard. The directions on the front door tell you to go left... which is correct if you look left from the front door, but not if you turn around to get back to the sidewalk, (which you must do). Because we liked it quieter, we chose the small dining room. Our table looked out over the beautiful courtyard... beautiful even when being pummeled by wind and rain.

The food is good, but I find the portion sizes to be way too small for the price. My husband's for was tender and cooked to perfection. My duck breast was flavorful and smoky, but did not have the characteristic crispy skin I have grown so fond of. The grits with the dish were sticky, not creamy. My son had the pepper pasta with shrimp. This was the best dish on the table.

Yes, we'll go back again, but maybe we'll see if we can order off the much less expensive pub menu.

“Mostly Excellent”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

My fiance' and I stayed here during the week, and were happy with our stay. The staff were friendly and very helpful when we went to ask them for things we needed, they answered any questions we may have had as well. The room was clean and so was our bathroom, the bed was very comfortable, it was chilly but we had plenty of blankets supplied to us.My only complaint was on the last day there (Thurs.night),the patio was just below our window, we could smell the cigeratte smoke from the bar/restaurant customers in our room. Therefore,I wouldn't recommend to stay near the patio or if you do stay, stay during the days the bar isn't open late or at all.Breakfast was good, but the french toast was the best and they had fresh OJ! Overall, we loved our stay, the inn was so relaxing & beautiful and we felt very at home :) Also, we did dine at the restaurant with friends and overall it was great. The waitress was a bit flighty, but the food was wonderful and the wine as well (little loud but we didn't mind)....

“The best kept secret . . .”

This is a wonderful place for a romantic dinner or just a quick night cap. The bare is a charming little grotto bar that is intimate and the staff is expert at providing a warm welcome. The food is superlative and the atmosphere like 'coming home.' A rare gem.

A lovely old place with very good food. There is live music several times a week. We particularly like to go during warm weather so we can sit out in the little courtyard ding area. In the colder months, we enjoy the cozy pub atmosphere.

The food was excellent. The room set up was pleasant but seating was very close. It was a very nice event and the service was good.
