“Front of the house problems”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

La Petite is a an excellent restaurant, and at the core the staff is very strong. Unfortunately, more attention needs to be paid to the wait staff, especially those less experienced in fine dining. I do not want to hear that something is not "a problem," I really don't want to hear screaming and yelling from the wait staff, I really don't want to be handed my plate across a table that has plenty of room for the server to place it in front of me, I do want to know how something is prepared. I am not getting what I want in this area. The food is excellent, the Renault family knows what works in Fredericksburg and what does not. It took years for the community to appreciate sweetbreads, kidney, liver, even prosciutto. Now they do, It's a shame to see the quality of service falling off, although I understand finding experienced professional wait staff is difficult.

“An enjoyable lunch, well-served”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

There are very few good choices in Fredericksburg for a high-quality, moderately priced lunch, and La Petite Auberge is definitely one of them. We noticed a number of prominent local business leaders dotted around this well-furnished, pleasing restaurant. The decor is just right; the paintings tasteful and inviting, and the ambiance is just right.

Crispy, warm rolls were served first, which were much appreciated by a hungry group. The salmon was perfectly cooked and nicely served. The liver and onions was good, even if the sauce tended to slightly overwhelm the flavor of the liver. It was nonetheless excellent. The Steak & Frites were as well cooked and served, sliced like a Chateaubriand, as they would be in France. Others in our party enjoyed crab cakes and other sandwiches which were reported as excellent.

Do save room for desserts. The chocolate mousse was fantastic, deeply chocolatey without being bitter, the Key Lime Pie and Creme Brulee were also excellent.

The service was just right: helpful, polite and thoughtful without being overwhelming. I left a generous tip which reflected an enjoyable meal, well-served. We'll be back as soon as we're in Fredericksburg again.

“Average food, good service, nothing distinctive,”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

After touring some antique shops in Fredericksburg, we came here for lunch. I had a good hamburger fixed to specs! My wife's chicken curry salad was not good. Meat was substandard and the fruit array had zilch in taste. Coffee was good. The restaurant had pleasant, friendly table service. It took quite awhile to get served, however. The ambience was not appealing to us. Big high ceiling room with a dark feel and drab furniture. The tables are too close to each other and 3 times we were bumped into by waiters.

We won't be coming back here. The downtown of Fredericksburg does not look as charming as it used to. The downtown is mostly comprised of "antique" malls that have a lot of non-antique items. A couple of the shops were neat but most were messy and uninviting (e.g., a corner with magazines strewn all over the floor). There are also quite a few empty stores in the town.

“Fantastic”

Easily one of the best restaurants I have eaten in. Food is consistently great and service outstanding. Sherry and Marty make this my favorite restaurant.

If you like French food, it is the best in the area. Excellent service. Nice ambiance and situated in an area easy to get to.
