We were a party of four adults on 2 Oct 2012 when we dined at the Taj. We were so impressed with the warm greeting that met us as we walked in, and we were literally bowled over by the continued close attention that we received from our server, the drinks server, and the owner. None of us can recall ever having been more welcome in a restaurant. Moreover, the food was absolutely delicious and there was enough on our plates to feed the whole battalion. Every dish, bar none, was expertly prepared and presented. This is a restaurant that cannot be missed in the Fredericksburg region!

My husband and I were driving from Fairfax to Williamsburg last night, and the traffic was beyond horrendous. It took us close to 3 hours to get from our place to Fredericksburg, and so we decided that we couldn't wait 'til we got to Williamsburg to eat our dinner, and we decided to stop for a bite in Fredericksburg. I don't particularly like chain restaurants and prefer to eat a locally owned places, but just off the highway, it's always hard to find them because of the numbers of Chili's, Olive Gardens, TGIFridays, etc that greet you when you exit I-95. We drove around a bit, and i spied a sign for Taj Indian Cuisine, so we decided to give them a try. Turns out this place has only been open for 2 weeks. Well, if our dinner was an example of the chef's talent, it's going to be around for a long time.

The naan was outstanding, and we tried a variety we hadn't had before, Garlic Chili Naan. It's got a bit of a bite, but it is yummy. We also had the regular Garlic Naan that we order at other Indian restaurants, and it was very tasty as well. My husband and I both had lamb dishes and they were well-prepared and had the amount of spiciness each of us had requested, my husband liking very spicy and me preferring a bit more mild. I had the Gosht Patiala, a new entree for me, and my husband had the Lamb Vindaloo. Now, we make vindaloo at home, but this version was more tomato-y than the version we make, and he has been raving about how delicious it was ever since we left the restaurant. (I think I'm going to have to change my recipe and try to find one more like that one.)

If you are going to be in the Fredericksburg area and you like Indian food, this is one place you must try. You won't be sorry judging by the dining experience we had. Oh, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful to boot!
