“Character and charm”
Reviewed October 22, 2010

We were delighted with our one-night stay at this beautiful inn within the charming Fredericksburg historic district. Approaching the front of the inn, we were impressed with the welcoming appearance of the house and garden. All the staff was warm and friendly and eager to please. Our room was elegantly decorated and very clean. The renovated bathroom was modern and beautifully done with tumbled tiles, a pedestal sink, and a jacuzzi with a shower. Our room was very lovely and sufficient in size but there were other rooms that were larger. One of us found the bed to be too soft but the other found no problems with it. We might recommend getting a room away from the street as cars passing by can be distracting. The upstairs where the guest rooms were had a landing area containing a refreshment sideboard (a nice touch) and comfortable seating.

The front porch was wide and inviting with a porch swing and wicker cushioned chairs. There was a lounge with a bar -- we could help ourselves to sodas and juices. We had dinner in the restaurant and discovered that the chef was first rate: our dinners were excellent. It was a big surprise because the ambience didn't lead us to expect such wonderful service and cuisine (it was on the rustic side). However, plans are in the making for further decorating improvements. In nice weather, there is a courtyard area with a fountain which looked like a very pretty outdoor dining area.

In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast in the large dining area elegantly set up just for the inn guests. Fruit, juice, coffee and tea, pastries, and cereal were available as well as a choice of items such as delicious French toast, omelettes made to order, and oatmeal. The dining area had a fireplace, gorgeous windows, and lots of beautiful architectural details (as does the rest of the house). We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely inn and highly recommend it!

Recently stayed at this quaint B&B in Fredericksburg, VA originally built in 1792.

My room was in fair shape. The bed was comfortable but the bathroom was pretty small and very dated. Noticed several small things in the room either broken or not functioning. The paint throughout the interior needs to be redone.

I'm a light sleeper and was awoken several times during the night due to snoring guests, trains, sirens, and the sounds of cars passing by on the street.

Service was very good and we were given a full tour of the Inn on arrival and served a good breakfast.

We were accommodated here at very short notice as our B&B had double booked. The staff couldn't have made us more welcome - thank you Nancy! Rooms are superb, spotless and comfortable with newly refurbished bathrooms. Breakfast included in the price was very good and plentiful with lovely fresh fruit and lots of choice. The bar in the basement was friendly with good beer and wine and the food there was good and reasonably priced. Location couldn't be better for Fredericksburg, right in the centre of old town with plenty of parking outside the door. We couldn't recommend this place highly enough - don't stay in a mass-market hotel if you can stay in this lovely old place.

We found the Kenmore Inn as we were headed north to visit family. Molly made our visit so special. She definitely has an "at your service" attitude, and you can tell she loves what she does. This Inn currently has no manager, and Molly is filling those shoes nicely. We were sorry to have visited on a Monday, and look forward to dinner at the restaurant next time. Thanks for everything!

The inn itself is very pretty and located within easy wallking distance of all of Fredericksburg's sights. Uopn check-in, we were shown to a room that was still being cleaned. The young girl gae us the key anyway since we wanted to go sightseeing. When we came back, the room was clean and we settled in. Only later when we got ready to leave for dinner did we discover that the keys we had been given were for a different room. We moved to the room for which we had been given keys. Room was pretty with beautiful furniture, but the bed was not comfortable - we spent the night rolling to the middle of the bed - not great for middle-aged backs. Part of the reason we chose the inn was for the restaurant - it was closed the night we were there. All in all - not a bad experience, just not great. The next morning the housekeeper was ironing and had linens stacked up in the foyer - maybe move to a guest room or somewhere out of the way if guests are still there?

Frankly, I don't understand any of the negative comments posted here. My girlfriend and I booked a three-night stay. We wanted a romantic getaway in an historic location. The Kenmore met and exceeded our expectations. The room (the Fredericksburg Grand) was cozy, the staff eager to please, the entire place clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive.

Having a fireplace in the bedroom with a roaring blaze going every night seemed almost decadent, and with a decanter of sherry provided by the inn sitting on the bedside table it was a delight just to relax on our four poster bed and enjoy the ambiance . The bathroom was thoroughly modern and spotless, with a small plant sitting on the ledge next to the jacuzzi to add a little extra color and life.

Breakfast in their beautiful dining room was tasty as well as filling, so filling that we usually skipped lunch in order to continue our sightseeing without interruption. We had two evening meals in the basement pub. The pub didn't have the charm of the rest of the inn but the food was good and the wait staff very responsive. At the end of our second meal there we asked about returning for dessert a little later on in the evening and were told they would be happy to send a dessert up to our room at our convenience at no extra charge. How's that for service?

Fredericksburg has a lot to offer in terms of history, shops, and eateries and it was impossible to see everything in three days. When we go back for another look we will definitely stay at the Kenmore Inn again.
