The whole place oozes charm. Our room was beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was fitted out to fit the period of the house but had all mod cons. - a great shower and masses of hot water. No problems at all. The food in the pub was fabulous, the staff friendly, informed and attentive. We will be back and would recommend the Kenmore to anyone visiting Virginia.

We enjoyed our stay at the Kenmore. The owners are very entertaining. We liked the conversation in the pub and had a great time. There is still a lot of work to be done and the yard and exterior really need to be cleaned up. I'm sorry the weather was so hot we couldn't take advantage of the front porch and swing. Breakfast was great.

Reading the reviews, the Fredericksburg guides & the hotel's web site, we were ASTOUNDED by the exterior of the Kenmore Hotel which resembled a tenement in the Bronx with peeling paintwork, discarded items of furniture littering the backyard (visble form the street) & not even a sign board at the front.

Our initial impression was not improved by the side guest entrance hall from which could be seen the most untidy office imaginable and a back passageway filled with hotel detritus. Fortunately our bedroom appeared to be clean although the ensuite contained an Edwardian bath with worn enamel & tiles & towels to match! And it was impossible to get more than a dribble of water from the wash sink faucet - presumably because the pipes are furred up - & after 10pm there was NO hot water in either shower or sink.

The Kenmore is advertised as being newly renovated - it is NOT. There are signs of redecoration and new drapes etc. but no effort or expense has been put into replacing the bathrooms, the A/C units (present at every window) & thorough maintenance. Indeed when I switched on my hairdryer the dim bathroom lights faded to almost blackout - I hate to think of the state of the electric wiring! And as a parting shot, we were treated to the accompaniment of a cockroach with our morning showers.

On the plus side, the place is filled with fresh flowers - perhaps Gretchen is hoping you won't look past them to the lack of maintenance beyond.

We were doubly unfortunate in that we arrived at The Kenmore on a Monday when not only is the hotel bar and restaurant closed but also so it seems, is the whole of Fredericksburg & we found it almost impossible to find a decent restaurant for an evening meal.

In my opinion, The Kenmore reflects its location - in a dreary little town that doesn't welcome tourists. Don't go there.......

, General Manager at The Kenmore Inn, responded to this review, June 28, 2005
We understand our guests arrive with varying expectations. The Kenmore Inn has been undergoing significant renovation for the past year . While in an ideal world we could transform this 18th century jewel overnight, into the destination of every visitor's dream, in reality that is not possible. We are proud of the services we presently offer and take exception to the disappointing remarks about Fredericksburg. We endeavor on a daily basis to bring together all the elements necessary to turn what once was, into what will be. Without a true love of this historic inn, the Herculean task of renovating a building that has seen centuries of 'use' would be nearly impossible. I can only hope that this guest will offer us the opportunity to visit us again next year to see the progress that has been made.

We stayed for 2 nights and the breakfast was excellent, the downstairs rooms were also really good. However our bedroom was a bit average. The bed is very comfortable but the windows are rotting through and all the paint is peeling off. The toilet seat was only attached with one bolt so one had to be careful. The shower was victorian, once you eventually got the hot water do not try and adjust it as you might get a dose of cold water. The towels were old and thin, slightly gray. In the upmarket B&Bs towels are usually big and fluffy, not so here. Generally it is good, Gretchen was excellent and the staff great but let down by the bathroom and some maintenance/repairs that should have been done before they got to this state.

My husband and I recently spent a weekend in Fredericksburg and stayed at the Kenmore Inn. We found the Inn to be very clean and cozy. Gretchen, the Inn manager, was hard at work planing a variety of all foliage as we arrived. She was always available for the guests and fun to talk with. A previous rater said there were flat screen tvs in each room which is not the case. Our room did not have a tv but we didn't miss it at all! The breakfast (which is included in the room rate) was outstanding! Not only was there a continental breakfast in the dining room, there were many cooked items available on the menu. I had the French Toast which was delicious! Dinner at the Inn was quite tasty and enjoyable. The Bisque and Caesar's Salad a real treat! Excellent wine! All in all a great experience and should we return to Fredericksburg we will stay at Kenmore Inn.

We were unable to enjoy the pub and restaurant the night we stayed at the Kenmore - - but my husband & I still had a wonderful time. The inn is an intimate & well-appointed lodging in a great location in Fredrickburg. The room was quaint and very simple. (The inn also provides flat-screen TVs in each room.) The bathroom was small with older fixtures. The porch was a wonderful place to sit and have a glass a wine. The inn also provides breakfast for guests. Great restaurants are in walking distance. Overall, the standard room is good for one-night, but if you staying longer I would recommend the suite, which we will do the next time we are in town.

I have stayed over at the Inn a few times in the past and enjoyed it very much (quaint accomodations, antique furnishings, pleasant staff). On Mother's day My Lovely (soon to be) Bride enjoyed Luncheon from the menu in the Dinning Room. All of the food was very good and the staff was gracious. The Crab Bisque was absolutely fantastic and yes, sensual, especially with the taste of Sherry that had been included in the recipe. I will visit this establishment many times in the future.
