“One Night Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

We stayed here for one mid week night for a local hospital appointment the next morning. We were pleased with the room (3/6/13 room 304). Reserved a King bed room and upon arrival the wonderful girl at the front desk upgraded us to a two room king suite without asking. Th room was spacious and clean, corner room with views to the streets. A microwave and mini fridge as well as two flat screens tvs. The only complaint was the comfort of the bed. Very uncomfortable and we woke to back and neck aches. Plenty of pillows were provided, shower was hot with good pressure. We will stay again and hopefully will get a room with a newer mattress. Front desk staff very friendly, proffessional, and efficient. Great staff !!. Breakfast was standard buffet fare for a reasonable price for Boston $12.00.

Room Tip: Ask for aroom with newer mattress.

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your experience regarding your recent stay. Indeed we are very convenient to the Longwood medical area, providing complimentary shuttle service to those hospitals. It will be my pleasure to share your comments with our staff, as I am pleased you found them "great" as they are always attentive to our guests needs. I appreciate you letting us know about the mattress in your room, we will look into this, as we are diligent on rotating them quarterly to insure an even wear on them. Thanks you again for all your feedback, hope to see you the next time you are in the Brookline area!

My stay at the Holiday Inn-Brookline was pretty good.

My list of positives include: a nice room, very clean (which is a must), good lighting, great 24hr service (friendly and accommodating), nice lobby, comfy bedding, some updates and perfect location.

My list of negatives include: crappy cable connection (we had to have someone come fix the tv because it kept freezing), small weird space under the toilet that wasn't completely patched up, no fan in the bathroom (horrible if your rooming with someone and need to do "number 2"), and the door to the room didn't go all the way to the floor (seeing people walk by all night was a little creepy).

The negatives I listed are rather small, but still should be considered especially if things like this would bother you.

Overall stay " Tres Bein"

Despite what others said about this hotel...I really liked it! The quirky architecture, the open area in the middle with trees, a chess board and pool was lovely! The front desk was polite helpful and efficient!
We ate breakfast in the hotel and for $12 it was GREAT....and they were able to offer several gluten free options which always scores points with me!
The bed was SUPER comfy and the halls were quiet! We were on the 2nd floor and literally never heard anyone pass by.
We asked for a spare blanket and shower towel and it arrived in 2 minutes!
Really a great spot. On the T, near BU and NU and all the schools we came to see!

As many reviews have pointed out, the pleasant customer service at reception was about the only saving grace!

We were staying for one night, having a medical appointment at one of the local hospitals that day. We arrived to find the most bizarre layout I've ever seen of an hotel outside of Disney. The interior looks like we'd stumbled in to an indoor motor lodge! 2 lines of layers of motel rooms facing on to a pool...which lay between the two rows of rooms. Yep, it was like staying in a Floridian motor lodge which was in a warehouse! I had planned to swim in the pool (it's my way of relaxing) but a) anyone in the rooms beside it could happily watch me and b) there is no way it is big enough to do laps (as opposed to the hotel's claims). These rooms do not have windows to the exterior...just windows to their neighbors opposite.

It was raining that day and the rain was pouring through the roof of the 'atrium'...(AKA warehouse roof). We were sitting in the restaurant underneath a patio umbrella with buckets around us on the floor to catch the water! Luckily we were the only occupied table as we saw some of them getting direct hits as did the open hallway to those poolside bedrooms!

We asked to be put in the 'tower' whose rooms do have windows. HINT: IF you are staying here, you must insist on a Tower Room, the other area of the hotel stinks of damp and chlorine. Going up to our One Bedroom Suite (4th Floor) - it was also quite bizarre. Situated in a corner, the living area (with the sofa bed) had heat via a heater, but the bedroom had no heat whatsoever..not even a radiator or heat fan! So the living room was roasting and the bedroom freezing...not what you want in Boston in December. The bathroom was tiny which again was odd given that the living area and hallway were much wider than necessary. It seemed like they were trying to make the most of an oddly shaped space.

We had to call down for bedding for the sofabed as it didn't have any (nor pillows)...and we were given...a sheet. Yep, a single sheet. We just gave up and all camped out in the one bed in the bedroom.

The room itself was clean and not damp, which we were pleased about.

Not knowing the area (and being unaware that this area of Boston has multitudes of fantastic restaurants within a 500 yard radius), we ate in the hotel bar. The restaurant was closed. Not a good sign and an even worse one was that the hotel bar had only 2 people in it. However, we went ahead and ate anyway. I had quesadillas, and we had one burger and one salad. The French Onion soup came but as I could taste the long-past-its-best bread which was quite prevalent, I ate only very little of that.

The next morning we walked 100 yards and ate at a French patisserie which was great. Being Boston, the coffee was good too.

I was really hoping to like this hotel, but it was a disappointment on many basic levels especially with a half freezing, half roasting hot suite. However we left feeling amused rather than annoyed, simply because we thought the layout was just so motor lodge awful and the soaking at breakfast was very 'Faulty Towers'!

Luckily the bed was clean and very comfortable and the area is a great urban area, otherwise we would have given up and gone somewhere else. Good for the night, but wouldn't like to make a vacation out of it!

Thank you for your comments, indeed the hotel layout is unique in itself, offering a variety of settings; our interior garden rooms, atrium rooms, and our tower rooms, each providing choices for our guests. I apologize for the disruption during your breakfast with the leak in the roof, we are in the process of replacing this portion when the weather permits later this year. In addition we are looking into options for our 2 room suites in the tower to address the heat and cooling of each area, and we hope to have this corrected by the spring time. I am pleased you found the room clean as the housekeeping staff prides themselves on ensuring this for all of our guests. Again thank you for taking the time to write us.

A very good location -- nearby all the stores in Brookline and Coolidge Corners, as well as Boston. A short walk to the "T" C-Line. The basement is undergoing renovations. Parking is in the basement of building. We were "upgraded" to an Executive Suite. Not quite sure what made it Executive except for maybe the frig and microwave. No special features other than that in the room. My husband I happened to find several sewing needles in the sheer curtain as we were closing it for the night. Apparently the housekeeping crew leaves them there in case of emergency. Not a good thing to do. Housekeeping also opened our door by mistake when coming to clean another room. She was embarrassed and quickly apologized. A bit unnerving to say the least! This happened again the next morning at around 9am. Our college-aged son was still sleeping for a few minutes. I guess I should have put a "Do Not Disturb" sign outside. But I figured we would be safe at least until 9:30am! Our room faced Beacon St. so we were able to hear the traffic and the "T" rolling along. As a former NYC resident, the noise did not really bother me. Make sure to ask for the "College Tour" discount. We were in town for a college tour and received a nice discount.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not overlooking Beacon Street.

Thank you for your candid comments, I have shared them with our housekeeping department to ensure that our guests are not disturbed, and make sure that they are looking closer to the details regarding the sewing needles. Indeed our location is great and close to public transportation, especially for college tours, as there are so many nearby, our hotel is the perfect hub and spoke to see them all in a relatively shore period of time. We hope if your son decides to attend one of the nearby higher educational institutes we will see you in the future.

I stayed two nights on the 5th floor. All the concierges I dealt with were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, though showing signs of wear; it was advertised as a lower-rate room, probably for that reason. It was a quiet stay. Housekeeping was fine. This location is right on the green transit line with easy access to everything. Overall, I would stay here again; good value for the money.

We had a coupon for a free breakfast buffet the first morning, but the normal charge is $12 and it is definitely not worth that; I decided to skip it the second morning. The scrambled eggs were dried out, and they had run out of some of the selections; it looked to me like they weren't attending to the quality and restock of the buffet.

Room Tip: The layout is split into two sections -- on one side the rooms go up to the 5th floor with rooms in...

Stayed here for a weekend trip. The area have a very European flair. I loved walking around the area. Just a few block away near the university there were tons of great little restaurants. The hotel was a little tired. Needs a serious update. The staff was great. That being said, I would stay there again.
