Beech Tree Inn- Brookline
Ranked #7 of 11 Brookline B&B and Inns

This is a cosy B&B in the center of Brookline, located in walking distance to Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Broad Institute and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It is decorated in 1920's style: there are hand-painted signs for breakfast hours, check out times and where to find the milk for tea and coffee, cute! Persian carpets and wingback chairs give it an old British flair. Breakfast is a real treat with yoghurt, fruit, fresh home-made pastry and granola. At any time of the day you will find coffee, a selection of teas, fruit and some baked treats. Some rooms i.e. #1 have shared bathrooms, but everything is clean and works well.

Room Tip: Book early if you prefer a room with a private bathroom. Choose a room on the 2nd floor if you want...

Lovely comfortable homely inn. Decorated 1920s style with appropriate flapper music playing all the time. Home baking always available, as well as tea and coffee. Extensive, yummy breakfast. Lovely leafy neighbourhood. Great for walking to Harvard Medical School - about 15mins walk.

Room Tip: Room 3 lovely and large but lighting a bit low

Recent TA reviews are pretty much spot on. Positives are proximity to dining & shopping & the subway (all walking distance), the daily baked goods, and the friendliness/helpfulness of the Innkeeper, Janette. Negatives are lack of breakfast table seating when occupancy is high, traffic noise out front at night (Longwood Ave. is a very busy connector), and tiny bathrooms (at least in Room 3 where my wife & I stayed). The room layouts & the "feel" of the property is more boarding house than B&B, but the house provides the essential comforts and the staff make you feel welcome while taking a "hands off" approach with its guests.

Room Tip: Room 3 is spacious & comfortable, but the bathroom & shower spaces would be a challenge for...

The Beech Tree Inn was recommended to us by friends who had stayed their a year earlier - it was a good recommendation!

We stayed in room 7A which was very comfortable and had an en-suite shower room. As their website says, breakfast is set for guests to choose what they want - and it is plentiful! My only criticism here would be that if a lot of guests are having breakfast at the same time it can be a little "busy" and you're not guaranteed a seat at the table. However, mixing with other guests in this informal setting adds to the holiday experience.

Good location for the T Green Line with a station within easy walking distance. And, good location for places to eat within easy walking distance in Coolidge Corner.

Janette, the Innkeeper, and her team were great hosts.

We had a pleasant stay at the Beech Tree B&B in lovely Brookline. Very homey with delicious baked goods, tea and coffee available throughout the day. Communal table in the dining room allows mingling - or not, if you prefer to read the NY Times or Boston Globe instead. A 5-minute walk to Harvard Street restaurant's, the T and Coolidge Corner shopping.
Some passing police siren activity throughout the night.

I'm not sure I need to add to the other reviews, but I'll try...From our first hello to our goodbye 2 days later our experience was first rate. However, I admit, my first impression was not favorable, the yard and house are a little time worn but inside is spic and span clean, the staff are friendly, affirming and helpful...there are freshly baked treats setting out for the guests all day long - which certainly helps frame the mood!! Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and served beautifully. Coffee and an impressive assortment of teas are available all day. We met interesting, interested people at breakfast, even ran into a couple while we were exploring Boston. It's a convenient location - easy access to the T (which is easy to use), parking is a bargain and there are plenty interesting cafes w/in walking distance. I'd certainly return even if the baked goods were the only good thing there - luckily they aren't!!

Great place and a great location. My wife and I just (late June) stayed here for five nights. The host s were knowledgable, nice, and accommodating. Breakfast includes fresh hard boiled eggs and awesome coffee. Five minute walk to Coolidge Corner or two Green Line T branches with easy access to DT Boston. We've been to Boston before and this was our first time at the Beech Tree but not our last. Good times. Thanks Beech Tree.

Room Tip: If you don't like a bathroom that isn't attached to your room don't choose room 5. We di...
