“Good Location”

We chose this B&B since it was a block and a half from my daughter's apt. Nice residential location in the Brookline area, easy to walk to stores, restaurants, and public transportation. We stayed for 4 nights. The rooms are in the family home, for those who of you who prefer this type of B&B. For us, we felt like guests in a boarding house that serves breakfast. Have stayed in other B&Bs which afforded more privacy and space, where the owners/managers had a more separate living area. We did enjoy talking with Marcos and the other guests each morning.

We stayed for 3 nights at this charming B&B. First, the owners Betsy and Marcos are fantastic. We arrived early and we were able to check our luggage into our room and hit the town. We did not return until late at night and Betsy was up to welcome us, give us flowers for the room, and make sure we were pleased. The location is great. We walked all the time from the B&B into Brookline, down to Fenway Park, and over to Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street. The bed was comfy, the blinds kept the room dark for great sleeping, and the bathroom was large and clean. Betsy took time to review a bicycle map to give us pointers on where and how to ride in Boston. We ate breakfast our final morning (only because we kept eating dinner late at night). We really appreciated the selection; granola, fruit, yogurt, scones, bread and cheese. As my husband put it, "very French" breakfast. Overall a great experience to feel relaxed while taking in a city with a small town feel and superior service. Before we left, we agreed we had to make a review as we found this gem because of Trip Advisor! We plan on returning in the spring.

We're a baby-boomer couple and B&B junkies who have used TripAdvisor recommendations for many stays across the U.S. TripAdvisor has given us wonderful advice, and On the Park was yet another one. After we left, we vowed that we needed to "give back" -- share our thoughts with others. Hence the newbie status of 1 review ... but just wanted you all to know that we are much traveled and are NOT relatives or longtime friends of On the Park owners Betsy and Marcos. We know what we like in a B&B experience, and we found much to like at On the Park.

We were in town for Parents Weekend at Boston College (our first) and the location was a fine one (there are no really fantastic locations for BC stays). We took a cab several times when we were running late for events (fare was about $25 with tip), but also used the T at times (both the Harvard St. and Coolidge Corner stops). As described, the B&B is about midway between the two stops. It was a nice walk through the residential neighborhood to a main street, and the house is indeed right across the street from a small park; we enjoyed the whole vibe.

Our room was on the second floor with the bathroom right next door. As others have mentioned, bathrooms are not en suite. That was not a problem for us, but obviously may be for others. And while our room was on the small yet cozy side, it totally served our needs: wonderfully firm mattress, high quality sheets, tiny but adequate closet, and windows looking out onto a neighbor's backyard. The bathroom was large with a shower tub. We enjoyed the clear feel (happily confirmed by the hosts) that this was indeed a family home turned into a B&B, complete with plenty of family photos along the hall and small grandchildren visiting one morning.

The continental breakfast was fresh with a colorful fruit salad the mainstay each morning, accompanied by scones, yogurt and a kashi sort of granola. One morning, we found a cinnamon bread, another a basket of bagels and cream cheese. We like a surprise element in a B&B breakfast, so we were pleased with that touch.

The coffee and tea maker was a Keurig single-cup system with pods, so that was fun - picking your own choices from the drawer (though it would have been nice to have a bit more variety and some latte choices -- I personally love the Keurig pod lattes.) The coffeemaker is available round the clock, so a late-night latte in the cozy family room would have been a treat. We also appreciated that both Betsy and Marcos separately told us our son was welcome to join us for breakfast, which he did one morning.

Betsy and Marcos were wonderful innkeepers -- not intrusive but there when you needed advice or directions. With three more parents weekends and perhaps some other opportunities over the next three years, we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Room 2 at the end of the hall was the most private and its bathroom is definitely the larger of the...

I stayed at On The Park earlier this summer and had an incredible experience. The Bed and Breakfast was a beautiful historic home. The Owners, Betsy and Marcos, were incredibly gracious and their breakfast was to die for. I will definitely be visiting On the Park again!

I have recently completed my third stay at the Inn on the Park and look forward to many more when I am visiting the Boston area. Part of what has made my stays so enjoyable are the hosts, Betsy and Marcos. Long time residents of Brookline and deeply involved in the community, they shared their knowledge and enthusiasm in a way that engaged me and helped me. These are folks who care about making people comfortable: the atmosphere is warm and inviting, everything is clean, the neighborhood is safe and quiet and close to the T, restaurants, and stores and breakfast is the best I've had ( including my last trip to Europe) in any B&B or hotel.

My wife and I spent 5 nights at "On the Park" and planned to see boston. First of all the train station to center city is about 10 minutes walk but the train itself is very slow and takes about 25 mintues to reach center boston!
The room was clean but during our entire stay no one changed out towels or cleaned it.
Betsy and Marcos were nice and gave us a good map that we returned at the end of our stay. The big problem is that their breakfast was always the same, without variety and the worst part is that on our last day we had received for breakfast spoiled yogurt that smelled horrible. Marcos did apologize but unfortunately it wasn't enough since I already had stomach aches from the previous day when Marcos smelled the milk for my coffee (to make sure it was ok), gave it to me and still it must have turned sour!

OnthePark, Owner at On the Park, responded to this review, September 29, 2013
We were very disappointed to see this review and welcome the chance to respond to it. When we reply to inquiries for our B&B, we describe in our email, that our location is " nearly equidistant (5-8 blocks) to two different branches of the Green Line of the T (Boston's public transportation system) that can take you into the heart of the city in 20 minutes." So the time it took to go downtown by public transportation should have been no surprise. Indeed, many people appreciate the oasis of calm and tranquility that our location offers, while located just blocks away from shops and restaurants, a great book store and a wonderful movie theater.

As with most hotels, inns and B&Bs today, we do not change the towels daily. Each room has an information sheet encouraging people to help themselves to fresh towels whenever they wish, and directing them to our linen closet. Our breakfast has been a source of great compliments from our guests as one can see from our reviews. The basics of breakfast consists of yogurt, granola, fresh fruit salad, and a changing array of freshly baked goods from our local bakeries.

Because the breakfast hour was already completed by the time you came to the dining room on the morning you described, Marcos wanted to be sure that you had fresh milk for your tea and coffee when you arrived. We make every effort to accommodate the needs of our guests and are very sorry that you left disappointed.

Eight family members traveled to Boston to visit our son and his wife. A baby shower was the destination celebration. Staying at ON THE PARK B&B was the perfect location for our "Home away from home." We were greeted with warm hospitality by Betsy and Marcos and all of our family felt at ease and comfortable. Breakfast was healthy and good and two items especially touched the hearts of our grandchildren: Cinammon Bread and Froot Loops for our grandson; not a regular on the menu, but on the table for him due to a peanut allergy. Betsy and Marcos were eager to please! We were quite busy visiting all of the historical sites in Boston, however, my fondest moments were sitting on the lovely porch as the children played in the beautiful neighborhood park. As a bonus experience, Betsy took me for a morning swim at Walden Pond - a memory to treasure! Abundant Thanks, Betsy and Marcos for accomodating our family and for sharing your friendship.
