“Great food - not so great staff”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Went in on a Saturday night. It was busy and we asked for first available. We were taken to "the waiting area" and told it would be about 20 minutes. Watched tables turn over and over and over. We asked the hostess about it and she told us we were next - a couple of times. Finally we were seated at the bar after a 90 minute wait and were told that they were only seating walk ins at the bar and that that wait was much longer because of campers. If we had known that we would have gone elsewhere. We spent $50 on two glasses of wine and one of their signature cocktails while we waited. When we were finally seated at the bar and ordered another glass of wine the bartender, whose name was not on the tab and with whom we had exchanged just a simple hello, poured our wine and said, "just so you know I gave you the 'I like you' generous pour." I beg your pardon? I don't like you, you're smarmy and we won't be back.

“Culinary Genius!”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

Tim Maslow is a culinary genius!

Ribelle brings creativity and inventiveness to the Boston restaurant scene. The succinct listings in the menu don’t do the dishes justice. Every dish is a creation full of flavors. Some combinations on paper make you scratch your head, but once you put a morsel in your mouth, you can smell, taste, and feel the genius of what Tim and his team have created.

We are not big fans of those that use modern cooking techniques just for the sake of using modern cooking techniques. However, everything done at Ribelle is for a reason and all about the ingredients, not the technique. The techniques accentuate the ingredients and the flavors.

Service is knowledgeable and friendly. The turnover seems really low which speaks volumes for an industry where turnover is traditionally high.

My only minor constructive feedback is the acoustics. It gets really loud and hard to have a conversation. I think they tried putting acoustic tiles on the ceiling, but it's still not quite enough to hear well during peak hours.

That one minor detail aside, I think Ribelle is one of the most inventive and creative restaurants in the greater Boston area right now.

“Very good meal!”

Very creative dishes and very friendly service. The prices are high but the flavors are strong. I had the ricotta balls and the lamb dinner and both were great. You definitely need two plates to leave full. Very good meal.

I dined at Ribelle one week ago with my wife and two friends, The four of us shared several dishes which were creative and fun. We began with the truffle, egg toast plate and then shared two salads. These displayed complexity but purity in flavor. The real stars of the show were the squid ink fideos with lobster and the skate cheeks served in a hot and sour ham broth with daikon. Desserts were many steps below the entrees. Too bad. The wine list is small but features some real delights,eg, the chardonnay from the Arbois/Jura region. The ambiance is very, very casual. You may end up seated at a long communal table. And it can get loud. We dined on a Sunday; so the noise level was low. Plus we scored a four-top; so we had some intimacy and repose.

“A brunch for foodies”
Reviewed March 9, 2014 via mobile

I have been hearing a lot about Ribelle since it opened so it seemed like a good place to bring my boyfriend who constantly complains about the limited food scene in Brookline. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and we were a little disappointed to find a rather limited brunch menu and little in the way of lunch options. The menu, though it was short, did require some referrals to dictionary.com! The food was delicious though. Potato raviolo with beef hash was great and a wonderfully brunchey "bolognese" on toast with a sumptuous side of greens converted us. Ribelle is not cheap but the food is excellent. We look forward to trying the dinner menu some night.
