Description: Barcelona meets Brookline, and a sophisticated Boston neighborhood has a wine bar to call its own. A historic town located minutes from downtown Boston, Brookline is the perfect mixture of urban and country living. From large estates and recreational parks to boutiques and pedestrian-filled streets, Brookline offers a city atmosphere in a suburban setting. Located in Washington Square at 1700 Beacon Street, Barcelona is the newest addition to this lively neighborhood dining destination. A mix of antique wire glass, steel and reclaimed wood gives our newly built space a vintage appeal. The rustic, polished environment is the next best thing to eating tapas and drinking wine in our restaurant's namesake city. With hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and spacious patio, the space has a European charm which fills the menu as well.

“Wonderful discovery in Brookline!”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

I was entertaining two friends from out of town. I had a restaurant.com coupon for a Japanese restaurant in the Washington Square area of Brookline. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed. But the restaurant right next to it, Barcelona, a Tapas restaurant had outdoor seating and was bustling even at 5:45 pm., so we thought, why not? Why not indeed! The choices on the menu was very unique (check out their website for the menu). The waitress who was very knowledgable about all the dishes and the specials (which I ordered), answered all our questions, was very attentive, in fact the service was excellent. Each of us ordered two dishes, and a third dish which we all shared, and with the delicious very crusty bread with olive oil, we were quite full. We also order the pitcher of white wine sangria. All dishes were delicious (we shared tastes). In the end when we split the bill 3 ways with generous tip we each paid $33.00. Well worth it. I would return again in a flash.

“Tapas are great!”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We have been twice now, and love it. My only suggestion is to put more of the ingredients on the menu. As customers who have allergies or are vegetarian, it is very difficult to figure out what is "safe." The potato dish is amazing. The spinach and chickpeas are TO DIE FOR and the beet salad was fabulous!

The paella is really good.

The restaurant is very loud, and has clubby music.

“Best Tapas Around”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Barcelona Brookline was our choice for our son's 24th birthday dinner and we were very pleased. We were seated near the door leading to the outdoor patio. The wait staff was very helpful with the menu due to the food allergies and preferences of our group. (Gluten, dairy, soy, shellfish allergies and two eating vegan.) The menu was incredible and the waiter highlighted the items that we could eat right on the menu! The mussels were awesome, the golden beets were a favorite and all of the selections that our group ordered were great. This was the first time that some of us in our group had been to a tapas restaurant and we all agreed that this was a great restaurant experience.

“Outstanding service, fun experience, must try!!”
Reviewed June 15, 2013 via mobile

Every item we had was delicious! Lots of options, particularly if you had food allergies. Superb service. Favorite items included hanger steak, fiddleheads, broccolini, and risotto. Even if you don't like dessert, you must try their crepe and chocolate hazelnut cake

“Great food, but ther service is a killer”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We were five for dinner. We picked a dozen plus tapas plates, and they came as we asked, two or three at a time, until the end. We had one more plate to come and we waited and waited and waited. We finally got our server's attention and asked him to check. He came back quickly and said it would be right up. And then began the "dance of no eye contact" with our table. 10 minutes, 15 minutes, .... We eventually got him to stop by and had him kill the order.

And then he brought the bill (which he had in his pocket for whenever we asked) and the last item wasn't on it. But there was the drink that we sent back because it wasn't what was ordered, along with the correct drink. Sigh.

No manager stopping by to ask about anything, no sense that there might have any issue, about anything. The place was very busy, so maybe if everyone comes just once they'll have a business.

And by the way, the food we got was really good.
