Always interesting books highlighted, in addition to current best sellers. You know you're not in a corporate chain store the moment you walk in. The used book section is somewhat diminished but overall it's a find.

This is a great local independent bookstore with a huge selection and a fantastic layout. The employees are super nice and very helpful. Highly recommended, especially to help out local business.

Attended a book reading and signing at Brookline Booksmith. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic and recommended a great place for us to eat dinner. The reading and signing were fun and I could have spent a year wandering through the stacks looking at books and unique gifts. Definately worth a trip for book junkies!

When my husband and I found this bookstore in our travels along Harvard Street, we were thrilled. It is not a chain bookstore. There is more of a personal touch here. You must visit the used books section in the basement. Lots of old treasures.

Refreshing change from other book stores like Harvard book store or used book stores like Brattle. Unlike the latter two, it does not make customers to wiggle through narrow aisles or congested spaces to browse through selections. It has lots of space to comfortable walk through the aisles. It has enough chairs to sit and read for kids and there is a large enough space in its basement for a communal book-reading. There is a old book cellar, but the overwhelming old book smell is thankfully absent. Neat arrangement. Good categorization. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cons: Bit expensive, when compared to online sites...but, that a given. I didn't notice a restroom for customers.
