We enjoyed the very informative info there about the fossels and the local places to see. The people there were so nice and eager to help us. Love the timeline on the deck outside.

A bit out of the way, however a beautiful place Be sure to stop at the Visitor Center first. Watch the short video on Fossil Butte, look at over 200 fossil exhibits. The park has two trails. Chicken Creek Nature Trail is a 1.5 mile loop. It is moderate. The second trail is Historic Quarry Trail it is 2.5 mile loop and very strenuous. THe views from on top of Quarry trail are fantastic, take plenty of water, good hiking shoes and some food.

Stopped here on our way from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole WY. Nice little national monument to stop at. Great history and terrific scenery. Start at the visitor center. There's a quick informational video and displays to look at and gain knowledge. The rangers were great and very informative.

Go on the little trail near the monument. We saw a ton of animals walking thought the little trail nearby. We saw a moose, mule deer, long eared jackrabbit and hawks all within a short walk. We were the only ones around so that may be the reason for the animal sightings. The silence was incredible and the views spectacular. AND its all free!!!

We went over to the Fossil Safari after this and that is definitely worth the trip and cost. Check it out online. (not associated with Fossil Butte)

The Fossil Butte Monument Visitor's Center was a great place to stop. We didn't have much time there but took it all in, just the same. There are a lot of real fossils to see and several replicas to give you an idea of scale. The park itself is far and wide with a lot of different animals to see, the most of which is antelope. We drove on some of the "no sedan" roads (meaning AWD is important) and it was really fun. It's also one of the free national parks around, too. Visitor Center closes at 5:30, but the park remains open until dusk.

The Fossil Butte Monument Visitor's Center was impressive. There were hundreds of fossils on display along with accompanying information about them. There was a video display explaining how scientists and artists work together with the fossilized remains and are able to come up with color drawings of the animals and fish. We did not have time to take the nature walk or other hikes but will return next summer to do those.
