“Good place to hang around on a hot summer day.”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

This place is very close to National Harbor. You can get the taste of history and nature at the same time. Also great for family picnic and flying kites.

“Imposing sight from across the Potomac.”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

This large fort missed every occasion when it might have fired shots in anger. Originally built in 1809 to defend Washington, its defenders blew it up and abandoned it when a British sailed up the Potomac. After that, it was expanded greatly numerous times, and large cannon installed. But never fired on ships in the Potomac. Currently, it is a unit of the National Park Service system. If you have never been inside a fort like this, it is a good educational experience, and the rangers are well-versed on its history - or you can take a self-guided tour using their brochure.

“Super Cool Fort”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

The Fort is really cool. If you visit during certain times you can watch the artillery being fired. The rangers are really helpful. Small visitor center but the park itself is great if you are looking for something fun to do outside.

“Happy Trip Advisor Find!”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

We are visiting our daughter and family in Maryland for Thanksgiving. The weather was beautiful and we were looking for an outdoor kid-friendly and also interersting activity to do. I looked on Trip Advisor for Maryland and found the review for Fort Washington National Park. A great, unexpected find and the kids and grownups loved it, especially the canon's and the bunkers to explore. Beautiful setting looking over the Potomac River. A great day!
