“Happy Hour with Historic Twist”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

On a warm sunny day, Happy Hour on The Grant House porch is a pleasure. Small plates of food (such as two sliders, hummus and other selections) are only $4 each. A nice variety of beers on tap, and wine, plus a special drink of the day, round out the selections. But, it's the view of Officers Row that's the winner from the shaded porch- and probably the best part of the experience!

“Grand Grant House”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

Breakfasting at the Grant House on Officer's Row in the Fort Vancouver Historic Reserve was a real highlight of my visit to the area, combining an opportunity to tour the house, read the many historic plaques associated with the property, and to have a delicious meal in a beautiful setting. It never would have occurred to me to take in this attraction except that I was browsing the rewardsnetwork for places that offered airline miles in the area and were open for breakfast, and this place popped up. Not only was my morning meal a welcome break from my usual Starbucks fare, but it led me to the Fort Vancouver Historic Site where I ended up spending the balance of my morning touring the various exhibits there. The Grant House made for an elegant dining venue and a welcome lead in to the rest of the historic site to which it belongs.

“Disappointing service for the price”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We went here for Easter Brunch. I was actually pretty excited about going here and looking forward to it after doing some research online, so it was too bad that the experience was disappointing.

We were seated upstairs and told that our server would be by shortly. We sat there a good 5 minute and saw servers at the other tables come by with water and coffee etc, but no one came by and since we were eating at 10:30 am and hadn’t have any breakfast we were pretty hungry. Eventually out server came by. He told us the buffet was downstairs and that he could bring us drinks and offered us mimosas. No offer of coffee, but we were told juice was downstairs. We went downstairs and found out we went in the wrong entrance; we filled our plates and returned. Still no coffee.

Then our same server was at the table 2 away from ours. They got a much longer explanation about where to enter the buffet and that mimosas were NOT included in the price. They were also brought coffee. So our mimosas came, but honestly they were all orange juice yet we paid $7.50 for them. We should have just ordered champagne and grabbed juice from the buffet and made our own mimosas. For whatever reason we didn’t get good service. We asked the water boy for some coffee and it never came. Eventually our server came near the end of our meal and we requested coffee again, and he didn’t offer cream or sugar, and brought neither, so then we had to request he bring creamer and he seemed put out by it. Then when he brought the creamer he said he was going to bring our bill, even though we hadn’t requested it yet. I saw him give the other nearby table great service, so not sure why we didn’t get it. We were dressed up for Easter and we on time for our reservation.

The food was fine. Nothing incredible. The woman working the waffle bar was very friendly and helpful and the waffle was probably my favorite part of the meal with lots of toppings to choose from. After our first past through we went back for seconds and found the potatoes and the bacon completely empty and other items quite low. Also some signage would have been nice on certain “unknown” items. Also, it might have been helpful to have the buffet set up so people could go down both sides to keep the line from getting too long. A lot of kids were there and they didn’t know what some of the food was and took quite a while to decide what to get.

Overall, it was a brunch buffet which is never my favorite, but it was OK. My dining partner did enjoy his meal, probably more than me. But we were definitely put off by the service which left a bad taste in my mouth.
