we were traveling on our way from williston to sideny montana and glad we stopped. It was just me and my daughter so I wasn't sure how much she would enjoy this kind of history. She loved it and would do it again! We did they union trader program which was educational and fun for her. We stay for a long time and bought a few treasures from there. This is worth the stop.

This national monument will show you just how the army lived in the west during the 1800's. You get to walk around the fort and learn how it grew, how the soliders lived and what was expected of them. Go on hot summer day and understand just how how hard life was in those times. A great experience for families since the children will learn more in an hour or so then they will be reading any number of books. Great place!

We stopped here on our quest to visit the sites of the National Park Service. Fort Union was a military base and a key station on the Santa Fe Trail. In fact, it is here where the most visible ruts that were made from wagons traveling along the trail can be seen. We took the 1.6-mile self-guided tour which takes you around the ruins, including that of the living quarters, storehouses, transportation corral, jail, and hospital. The visitor center is worth a stop and we also watched the informative film. Overall, we found Fort Union to be a very interested stop.

Take water and comfy shoes. This is an amazing place for history buffs and a great spot to show the kids an old fort on the Sante Fe Trail.

Just a short drive off the highway.

The visitors center was very nice and featured much interesting information. The rangers were very knowledgable and friendly. We bought a National Park Passport booklet and have started seeing National Park sites already. Adding stamps is fun and educational. We loved walking around the old fort and hospital along with the walking tours.
