“A surprising, wonderful experience”

The visitors center was very nice and featured much interesting information. The rangers were very knowledgable and friendly. We bought a National Park Passport booklet and have started seeing National Park sites already. Adding stamps is fun and educational. We loved walking around the old fort and hospital along with the walking tours.

“Impressive location”

I have to agree with the previous review, it is in a remote location and you can picture what life must have been like living in this windy, desolate place. Definitely worth the trip.

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2009

I found this National Monument when researching for a roadtrip of New Mexico and I am so glad I added it to the itinerary! It was such a unique and exhilarating experience. I think what made this one stand out from other National Monuments I visited was the remoteness of it. Don't get scared it is only 8 miles off the interstate but there is no civilization out there only the flat open rolling plains and as you approach it you can see it from a distance and feel the what it really must have been like to be way out there back in the day.
I would highly recommend it. Also since it is not far off the interstate and is rather small it would not take much time to stop and check it out!
