Nice and comfortable hotel, I stayed in April 2008. Had no problem, the room was big and clean. Nice staff. Restaurant was nice with view of the river. Room service was always on time. The trolley tour was near hotel, very convenient.

This hotel is located on the river with a beautful paved walk way to the historic district and the popular river street. during the day you can take boat rides to river street not necessary but fun.
The staff is very helpful and pleasant. the spa relaxing and staff more than skilled at there jobs. I can not state enough positives about this stay every thing exceeded expectations

We stayed two nights on points and the hotel was very nice. Lobby was nice if unexciting and the our room was large and in excellent shape. As at most Marriots the bed and linens were top notch. The bathroom and shower were clean and spacious with a nice shower head. Yes, the chlorine smell in the lobby is noticeable but understandable since the pool is in the atrium, but it really wasn't a problem. If you want a quaint Savannah hotel this isn't the place for you, but I was happy we stayed there after the bed and breakfast we were originally going to book showed up on our ghost tour! While the location at the end of Riverfront was not quite in the thick of things, it was a easy 5 minute walk to shopping, restaurants and bars, not a big deal at all. We ate at the Blue restaruant on the property for breakfast twice. The first morning it was fantastic (I recommend the blueberry pancakes) but the second morning my husband had to send back his eggs and hashbrowns. Other than that small issue, we would absolutely recommend this hotel.

The kids and I tagged along with my husband on a quick weekend business trip to Savannah. His meeting was at the Marriott Riverfront so we stayed there, along with all the other conference attendees.

On previous trips to Savannah, we have always stayed at B & B's or small inns, so the Marriott was somewhat of a disappointment. Not much in the charm department, but I guess we knew that upfront. Still, it was within easy walking distance of the rest of the historic downtown area and is (as the name suggests!) right on the river. We watched fireworks from the deck outside the lobby. And our kids liked the indoor pool, even though it was a little weird being right in the middle of the lobby. We arrived late in the evening, so decided to have breakfast at the hotel the next morning -- that was mistake! Although we had a nice view of the river, neither the food nor the service was very good.

Unless you are in Savannah for business or for some other reason need a conference-type hotel, I'd opt for one of the smaller places sprinkled throughout the historic area.

The hotel is nice and if the rooms were upgraded then I would recommend it. Even though we were on the 8th/top floor concierge level, the room we had was worn. From an old door and loose doorknob for the bathroom to older carpet and dirty windows, the room wasn't up to my usual Marriott experience. The bed and linens were very good but we had them deliver a fold out bed and the pillow that came with it smelled horrible.
We did not have a balcony so you couldn't see a lot. If you stay, ask for a balcony as the view would be worth it I think.
We paid a government rate which came to $120. I wouldn't pay much more than that. The parking is an extra $15 which seemed excessive for the location. A little walk (fairly safe?) and there were lots of restaurants and night-life.
There were two pools and we used the indoor one. It was clean and nicely heated. The atrium is nice.
Check-in was easy and fast and we received a free breakfast...(ask on the weekends and you might get it too)
we upgraded to the buffett for an extra $2 per person. Very good food for breakfast.
The room let us down but there are still a lot of good things about this hotel. Ask for a updated room if they have them.

My wife and I stayed at the Marriott - Riverfront the first week of June. We stayed the first night on points and enjoyed it enough to stay a 2nd.
I read the previous reviews and agree - the pool smell is a little surprising in the lobby and the lobby is a little lacking in the excitement category, but with such a huge space, I'm not sure how you could properly change it.
Our room was excellent, very clean and overlooked the river. The bed was one of the best we've ever had in a hotel.
While we didn't try the restaurant, we did get great advise from Dustin at the front desk.
The charge for parking is a bit much but it's better than valet parking. We refuse to stay at hotels that force valets on you. We've had too many bad valet experiences!!
Yes - the Marriott is a far from the shops, bars, and restaurants but the walk along the river is pleasant.
Beware staying on the east side of the hotel! There's heavy construction on that side and even though they didn't start before 0900 each day, it's still something to be aware of..

Stayed here on points, could not fault the restaurant and the hotel lacked atmosphere. Very little help for tourists only a woman in the lobby intent on sending everyone on the same trolley tour - which of course we took and did not enjoy. The pool was not very clean and hard to get to. Ate in restaurant 2 nights running - food was excellent one night but less so the following night and sadly no concierge lounge available the nights we stayed. We left one night early! However did see the dolphins coming up the river whilst eating in the restaurant which was fantastic. Breakfast and breakfast staff were really good.
