My Husband and I just returned from our stay at River Street Inn in Savannah. We stayed on the fifth floor, river view with a balcony. The view from this room is on post cards. The location of this hotel is perfect, close to everything. We felt very much at home. The only thing they need to work on is the water pressure. We definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

The River Street Inn is absolutely adorable, right in the center of the action on River Street. The brick walls add to the charm of the inn, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The only problem we had with the hotel was our room was directly over Wet Willies, so if you aren't a night-time party person, expect to hear the music late into the night. We enjoyed Tubby's Tankhouse for dinner and Huey's for brunch and River Street Sweets for afternoon snacks. The food in Savannah is OUTSTANDING! If you are looking for a fun weekend getaway, check out Savannah. We even took a drive out to Tybee Island and walked along the beach (to work off all of the yummy food). Have a great time if you go!

On July 14th, my husband called the River Street Inn to make reservations for the nights of July 24th and 25th. I was visiting Savannah for work so we decided to plan a weekend trip. My husband’s birthday was also that weekend and in lieu of a chain establishment, I chose the River Street Inn. The young lady that took his reservation told my husband that we were confirmed for our requested nights.

We arrived at the River Street Inn at 4:00 PM on July 24th. When we attempted to check in, we were informed that the person who had made our reservation had “accidentally” made it for August instead of July. We were also told that in the Inn was fully booked for the night. The front desk clerk was completely unapologetic for this mistake yet insisted that she would find us accommodations elsewhere. After calling numerous other hotels, she located a room at the Marriott. Unfortunately, the rate was almost $80 more per night than the River Street Inn. When I asked if River Street Inn would fund the difference, the clerk rudely replied that they would not.

Because this was my first trip to Savannah, I was wholly unfamiliar with the city and was not aware of the quality or location of alternative accommodations. In fact, we attempted to make our reservations in advance of our trip for this very reason. Had we wanted to arrive late on a Saturday and call random hotels (as was the case) we would not have contacted River Street Inn for reservations on July 14. We were forced to spend over and hour calling hotels in the area and were finally able to locate accommodations eight miles outside of historic Savannah. While clean and comfortable, this room was hardly what we had envisioned when initially planning our trip.

The fact that a room was not available to us on July 24th was entirely the fault of River Street Inn’s staff. For this reason, River Street Inn should have identified equivalent accommodations for us. In that equivalent accommodations were not available, River Street Inn should have paid for the difference in rates between the available accommodations and the rate originally quoted to us on July 14th. Not only did the front desk clerk fail to do this, she was rude and unapologetic for River Street Inn’s mistake.

When I moved from the North East to Georgia, I was told that southerners were kind and polite. Not only was River Street Inn's staff rude, they left two out-of-town guests without accommodations in an unfamiliar city. In my opinion, the actions of River Street Inn's staff were wholly unrepresentative of a reputable business establishment. I will be certain to share my experience with as many people as possible so they may avoid a predicament similar to this in the future. I hope you will do the same.

Great location for restaurants, bars, and river side shopping, but our room was musty and dirty. We had a river side room (without a balcony) and it was musty and everything inside had a wet feel to it. The bathroom was dirty with spots of mold on shower curtain, wallpaper and ceiling. Staff was not overly friendly, but by no means rude. For same great location I would have rather walked across the street to one of the other hotels. If you want charming, stay in the historic district, if you want to drink and be near the nightlife stay by the river, but I'd recommend another hotel.

You can get a river view balconey(only 2 people can actually use it at the same time) and catch all of the action on the Street..
The rooms are nice and old so anyone wanting a generic hotel room might be in the wrong place.
You can walk downstairs and straight to Huey's
for any meal of the day without even going outside.
The place is beautiful.
You can step off from a nice boat ride and head straight up to your room to chill out before dinner.
You can park your car across the street and never have fool with it again unless you just HAVE to.
You can walk to the Casbah from the hotel without any trouble.

I've stayed there twice and have no problems making reservations again. Its that good.

We stayed at the River Street Inn the second week of June. We had a great room with a balcony and a river view. We had read some of the posted reviews criticizing staff and reservation accuracy, but we had none of these problems. Staff was very accomodating, the room was immaculate and the view was great. The balconies are small, however, it was nice to be able to go outside and get a great view of the river. It is close to all restaurants and sites, and we will definitely stay there again on our next visit.
