“Not so pleasant stay”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We checked into the River Inn, paid extra for a "Room with a view and balcony". They don't tell you that the so called balcony is so tiny.. about 5x3 foot or so.

In the armwour there was note explaining how they hoped we enjoyed the use of the TWO robes, and that there would be a charge of 75.00 if one was missing... well there was only 1 there to begin with. We informed the front desk and they promptly noted it and asked us if we needed a 2nd. I told then no. just make sure we are not charged for something that was never there.

That night, my wife went to take a bath. The drain in the tub would not close so no bath could be taken. So she was going to take a shower. Well, the hot/cold handle turns on but then just spins in circles and it takes you forever to get it to make the water a decent temperature. We diid not bother to call as it was 11PM.

Ordered 2 breakfast meals (WAY overpriced), was only delivered 1 set of silverware. Also, hotel send this order out but keeps a delivery charge and an automatic 18% gratuity. That is according to the meal provider who was very nice and apologetic about the missing silverware. They even offered to provide lunch at no cost if we wanted to come to them.

When went to the front desk to complain about the tub/shower I was greeted by a female employee and a male employee who were in a back office talking about things that had nothing to do with the hotel until they finally noticed me. When I started to tell the female about the problems I was having, she cut me right off telling me that it could not possibly be the hotels fault and then developed quite an attitude. I informed her that all I wanted at this juncture was the managers name and number. The manager number was the main hotel number, that the ver same female employee answered. I left a message for the manager to please call me.... that was almost 2 weeks ago.

Short, it's a fairly nice older place, but it has it's issues and problems. Many of them being the staff and management.

A beautiful Savannah hotel! Our room faced the river which was endlessly interesting. Room was quiet, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Wine and appetizers complimentary each evening. Hotel was exceptionally easy to find and in the center of what we wanted to see. Parking across the street at the Holiday Inn parking garage was easy to get in and out of and a bargain considering we used all the free transportation offered by the city (bus, trolley and ferry). Highly recommend this hotel if you want a place outside the cookie-cutter hotels; very much part of the Savannah experience. Thank you to the staff that made our stay so nice.

Room Tip: Request river view room, if one is available. Gives you a chance to see the yachts, small boats, fe...

i was visiting SAV for my brother's wedding and wanted a place to get away from the family's craziness. i am so glad we did! as a fellow employee of historic hotels of america, i got an amazing rate. check in was painless and the valet/bellman Chris was freaking awesome! the room was wonderful! there were two beds but that's okay because we were one of like four other rooms that had a balcony. what a view!!!! you can see all of river street and the river! just beautiful. had a small hiccup with the shower but literally within seconds Chris was back to fix it up and no other problems with it. i wish we would have had time to check out the restaurants on site but it will give me something to go to when i come back. trust me, i will be back. anyone i know that's going to the SAV area i will send them there! thank you for such a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: if you don't mind the extra bed, ask for a room with a balcony!

We recently stayed for three nights at Savannah's "River Street Inn" and loved it. It is perhaps the most interesting and charming hotel in which we've ever stayed. The lobby is street level on Bay Street, which turns out to be the 4th floor of the hotel - interesting. Our wonderful room was on the 3rd floor, which was actually on the floor below the lobby - interesting. Our room was huge and had a small balcony looking over River Street (like New Orleans) and the waterway. We could stand there and watch great cargo ships and riverboats moving up and down the Savannah River - interesting. Riverstreet, with all its shops, live music, and restaurants, is off the first floor of the hotel - interesting. The building itself was built as a cotton warehouse long before the Civil War, but is totally remodeled on the inside - interesting. It's worth your time just to wander around the building, all the nooks and crannies. The service was exceptional. From 5:00 to 6:30 pm, guests are entertained by a free wine and appetizers party each day. We sat in rocking chairs and watched the bustle of River Street and sipped wine each evening we were there. We met some very nice people rocking near us and went to the theatre together. This daily "wine time" was unexpected and highly enjoyable - interesting. For anyone planning a stay in Savannah, not only is this hotel the finest, but it also has the best location in the city - close to all historical Savannah. We highly recommend this hotel and will stay no where else when we return to Savannah one day.

Room Tip: Ask for a room fronting River Street with a balcony - enjoy!

Parked the car in front of this boutique hotel and it stayed there until Monday morning when we left after three marvelous nights. This hotel is right in the thick of things, you can walk to all of the major sights. We were on the fifth floor over-looking the river. It offered stunning views. The hotel is a former cotton warehouse and is decorated in 19th Century furnishings. Hardwood floors, period pieces, four poster beds. Our room looked like the one on their website! Very spacious!

Staff were kind, courteous, helpful and apologetic when necessary.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for a River Front room. That will make sure that you are able to enjoy the am...
