This was a very nice hotel for a long holiday weekend. The hotel is in a fantastic location. You can enter from Bay Street or River St and not have to worry about those crazy steps between the two. The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions and/or suggestions for activities. The "social" hour was great. The bartender was very generous and the wine and appetizers (cheese, crakers, meatballs, etc...) were just the right transition from day time activities to preparing for dinner and nightlife. We also met several nice people and had some fun conversations during the social hour.
The room was fairly large and nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable. There is a refrigerator, but it did not work very well. Our room had beautiful hardwood floors, high ceilings and wonderful old moldings. There is also a sitting area with wingback chairs.
Parking is in one of the city garages for $10.00/day which is really worth it in Savannah. We basically left the car and walked almost everywhere we needed to go. This hotel is pretty much within walking distance of everywhere you need to go in historic Savannah.

Room Tip: When you enter the lobby from East Bay Street you are actually on the 4th floor. The city view rooms...

River Street Inn in Savannah, GA is a historic place to stay...its a remodeled cotton warehouse on River Street. The public areas are open and airy, rooms have hardwood floors, old brick exposed, nice bathrooms, soft comfy beds, views of river and river street from front side, wine and cheese reception...walk to many restaurants, directly across from convention center, blocks from Pirate's House Restaurant ( Good place to eat ) near waving girl, step out onto River Street's shops, restaurants, riverfront, tour start locations...there's a friendly staff...place to sit and read..watch ships pass day and night. Parking is a little difficult ... you have to move during the day...but hey its worth being in center of River Street

Room Tip: Try to get a River View the corner rooms are best with both River and River Street Views...all the...

Great location and atmosphere. This is a Beautiful old building that has been tastefully appointed with old south charm. The surrounding neighborhood and riverfront offer plenty of opportunities for shopping and dining and exploring. Unfortunately, the night of our visit a cold front hit the eastern seaboard with temps in the 40's and very cold wind chill which prevented us from going out and truly exploring all Savanna has to offer. Our room was spacious with a 4 post bed, sitting area with queen Anne chairs and other charming appointments. The layout is different from other hotels, you enter through the 4th floor and most rooms are on the lower levels. Definitely get a river view room otherwise your window looks out onto the old loading ramps/tunnels which are cool but not the same as the river. The hotel has a wine an appetizer reception late afternoon/early evening and the pours were generous and the apps were very tasty. Housekeeping does a turn down service which is nice however, if you request extra amenities (shampoo, conditioner) it may not show up. Go to the front desk and they have some extras available. The only other note is that if you like your coffee hot get to the front lobby early. There is a 12pm checkout which was great, when we wandered into the lobby around 9:30am looking for our java fix, the coffee in the urns was barely luke warm. Also, coffee mates are the only option, no milk, skim.
All in all this for the price this was a great hotel and worth staying at .

Room Tip: Get a river view room the other rooms have no view

We booked a King River front balcony room and it was great! The view and standing on the balcony and people watching is worth the money! The Hotel itself was very good overall, but the main elevator was down, so we had to go the the back elevator. The parking garage the hotel uses is one of the worst I have seen in my travels....SMALL spaces, filled to capacity and 1 broken elevator! The front desk staff seemed offended I made a comment on the parking garage...Overall nice stay, just pack light and bring a small old car you do not care about....

Room Tip: Book a Balcony room, it cost more but the view/exp. is worth it!

We absolutely loved our stay at the River Street Inn. We had a great view of the river and our room was perfect- and at such a great price. I will definitely be staying here again during my next visit to Savannah!

Room Tip: go for the river view room is you can!

We stayed here for the fourth time this past weekend. We stopped over on our way back home to South Florida. It was late at night and we had our toddler sleeping in the car with us, the hotel staff was very accommodating helping us check-in quickly to get our little one to the room. The staff has, in our experience, has always gone out of there way to give each guest a taste of "Southern Hospitality", even offering to move there cars so we could have a space closer to the hotel. Our room was clean with a remodeled bathroom, which had been done since our last visit in 2008. Before you let some of the "terrible" experiences others have posted here deter you, there are a few things to keep in mind 1) If you've never been to Savannah the inn is on River Street, which is a lively part of the city with restaurants, bars, shops, etc. So if you want to ensure there will be no noise, you may want to request an interior room 2) The hotel is a 100+ year old cotton exchange 3) Here like many places in Savannah parking is limited. Needless to stay it is a wonderful hotel with a wonderful and helpful staff and sure to add to your Savannah experience.
