We stayed one night at The Marshall House on a tour along the East Coast. The Marshall House is one of the oldest hotels in town which is clearly visible from the outside. An old typical building but fully renovated and well tended.
Also on the inside the hotel has been nicely refurbished and is very clean. We had a rather small room but nevertheless nicely decorated in fresh and pleasant colours and the old charm preserved.
Extremely helpful staff, a good introduction to Savannah by the concierge.
We dined in the restaurant and were more than happy with the quality. The breakfast on the other hand we found a bit on the poor side.
Savannah itself was somewhat of a disappointment as it's not the most clean town and definitely would need a face-lift. We might have been spoiled a bit by Charleston. The Marshall House made up for it however.

Just finished out 2 night stay in Savannah at the Marshall House. The staff was friendly and helpful. Valet parking is an extra $15 a day. There really aren't any other cheaper parking options. The location is great...walking distance to places like the Savannah river, Mercer Williams House, city market, some decent restaurants, etc. Breakfast was good but nothing to write home about. A convenient way to start the day if nothing else. We stayed in room 323 which had no view to speak of...just the bright yellow lights of the parking structure next door, and the sound of the early morning trash truck in the alley below. The room was fine. Large comfortable bed. All in all a pleasant stay.

To sum up I'd say this:
If you're thinking about staying here, go for it. I was not disappointed.
However, if we ever make it back to Savannah I think we'd stay somewhere else because I was not super impressed either.

Only good things to say about this hotel. I loved the historic ambience. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel. I wish they would put together a brochure (or include in the in-room guest services book) an explaination of the history of the hotel with pictures over time and point out the interesting features.

We stayed here 2 nights while on a road trip up the East Coast - three generations including 3 kids 9 and under. Lovely place - rooms were large and lovely with very comfortable beds, bathroom was nice enough and clean, hotel décor and common spaces are totally up my alley - love the old historic places. My kids loved the checkers table in the main living space - they played while my sister and I enjoyed the nightly wine and cheese from 5:30-7. Such a nice perk!! Breakfast was also nice - set in the lovely atrium and lots of choices. Again, included in your nightly price so a great perk!! The front desk staff were excellent - Jerry (originally from Brooklyn) helped us with dinner recommendations and we were very happy (check out Huey's on River Street). Both Jerry and Michelle were very friendly and chatted with us, which is a fun part of traveling for us - meeting new people. The only negatives I noticed were the loud ice machine (it was right outside my room, #207), the A/C can be a bit loud when it kicks in (but it works really well!!), and the place is supposedly haunted. I didn't see any of that - and didn't even know until 9 pm the first night thanks to my sister's Google habit - but it didn't affect our stay. Also convenient walking distance to both River Street in one direction and some lovely squares in the other. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: The 3rd floor is supposedly where some haunts have been seen - so you can choose to be a ghost hunte...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Marshall House this past July. Although the hotel is old, that's part of its charm. The furnishings and historical touches really add to its ambience. The weekday Wine and Cheese is a lovely way to unwind from the day and prepare for the evening. Continental breakfasts served in an airy atrium got our days off to a good start. The front desk staff and the concierge were always friendly and helpful. I was also impressed at the cleanliness in both the common areas and the guest rooms. Many of the rooms are small, but we stayed in one (I believe it was Room 305) which gave us ample space. And the location is excellent. We valet parked the car and were able to walk anywhere in the historic district in 15 minutes or less. The only time we needed the car was when we drove to Tybee Island to go to the beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, away from the elevator and ice machines.

We enjoyed our stay at the Marshall House. The property is an old historic building. With that comes the creaky floors etc that you would expect in an older building but it has many modern amenities. We were greeted at the door by friendly bellmen and we were able to check in several hours before the normal check in time. The front desk staff also offered some suggestions on tourist attractions. The Inn is conveniently located a couple blocks from the riverfront and City Market where you will find some historical landmarks, restaurants and nightlife. It is also a sight to see the large barges along the river going in and out to sea. There is also a decent breakfast set up in the morning which comes with the room. I believe the valet was $10 a day or you can park yourself in the garage behind the building for $8 dollars a day.

Room Tip: I would try to get a room facing the main road and at one of the ends of the hallways to lessen any...

We LOVED the Marshall House. The building is very old and most of it is original. the ambiance is lovely. The lobby has beautiful tiles at the front desk and there is a lounge area just feet from the front desk that is decorated with historic pieces. It has comfy couches and chairs and wifi or traditional plug for internet is available. Right off the lounge there is a room where they serve the complimentary breakfast. It is a bright cheery room and the breakfast were very good. I would say excellent if they would have had more gluten free options. The coffee was yummy and the staff was always friendly. The front desk and the porters/bell people went out of their way to be helpful and polite. We travel with our bicycles and the only parking available is on the street or valet. We chose the valet. They were happy to keep our bicycles in the storage room for us and every time we left they had to lug those bikes out for us. They always did it willingly and happily, as well as retrieving our car. Very educated on the local history and were willing to give recommendations for sights and food.

Our room was small but lovely. We were on the 4th floor, which I love because then there is no one walking above you. The floor was a bit tilted but it didn't detract from the charm, after all it is the original woodwork/floors. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a charming Victorian feel to it. Housekeeping was fabulous!

The Inn is only a few blocks off River Street and there is a delightful historic walk that begins one block from the Inn. Many restaurants are within walking distance and Tybee Island is only 20 minutes away. We highly recommend the Marshall House.
