We love old restored hotels in the heart of the city. The Marshall House really fits that description. We were able to walk to everything. Had a wonderful dinner and went to a concert during the Savannah Music festival. Came back to the beautifully restored hotel, had a late night drink and went to a beautiful room and slept like a dream. Had a delightful breakfast and left the next morning. We loved the hotel and the staff.

Room Tip: I really only saw ours. It overlooked the main street and was not a problem.

I recently visited the Savannah, GA for a family event and we stayed at the Marshall House Hotel. This is a wonderful property in a city full of history. This was also my first trip to Savannah.
The good: I'm a guy that likes new and modern conveniences in my hotels, and the Marshall Hotel met all of my needs while maintaining its old school charm. The rooms were nice with wifi, a large comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful and there are pictures and articles on the walls that helped portray the history of the city and the hotel. The location is in the middle of the historic district within walking distance to tourist attractions and wonderful restaurants. The hotel provided a free buffet breakfast and there was an attached restaurant and bar that was inviting and friendly.
The bad: The bathroom was small and my wife and had to use the bathroom in shifts. Not unusual for an old hotel, but it really was not a problem. The elevator was slow, so I ended up taking the stairs most of the time. The buffet breakfast was somewhat limited on variety, but we always felt satisfied. We were at the end of a hall, so the room was quiet, but we could still hear sounds coming from the adjacent room.
Overall: This was a wonderful property in a great location. Although not perfect, the minor issues with hotel are not unusual for an older property. This hotel has a lot of charm and I believe anyone would enjoy their visit.

Room Tip: Get a room on a lower floor if possible in case you find the elevator slow you can easily take the stairs.

It was a wonderful place to stay.

My sister and I stayed only one night in this hotel. We drove down from Charleston to get a taste of Savannah. We didn't spend alot of time in the hotel but it was in a good location and the staff were friendly and willing to be helpful. The room we had was a double on the 2nd floor. Nice sized room with comfy beds. Bathroom was small with very little storage space but that was okay since we were only staying one night. Lighting in the room seemed to be very poor. You had the choice of the overhead light on the fan or a couple of table lamps which didn't seem to provide much light to the room itself. There was just one armoire with some hanging space but seemed to be little else for storage. But since we were only there one night, we didn't mind.

They did provide a wine and cheese reception in the evening that we didn't partake of. They also provided a breakfast in the morning. Good selection of items. Bagels, toast, english muffins, cereal, quiche, biscuits, fruit, juice. Nice start to the day.

We would consider this hotel for a longer stay and it was great for our one night there.

The Marshall House is an historic hotel located on East Broughton Street. While the address was likely prestigious at some point in the past, the commercial area in which it is located is struggling to come back from the recession. There is NO view across the street from the rather attractive balcony, unless you like looking at abandoned storefronts, some of which were "improved" in the fifties or sixties. The location is conveniently between the City Market/Riverfront areas and the Historic District.
The service is great (especially the concierge), and we enjoyed an end of day cocktail at the in-house bar. Our room was a suite with a spacious sitting room and the smallish bathroom one gets in older hotels. The issue was the air-conditioning - I have NEVER stayed in a hotel with a/c that blew like you are in a wind tunnel. The only choices were "on" or "off" - and in the "on" position, the vent blew directly on my head. In the end, we made do with running the a/c in the sitting room and turning it off in the bedroom. But I am doubting that this will suffice in the heat of summer. The breakfast included with the room was about what you would get at a Hampton Inn - ok, nothing special.
We will not return, because we now have a sense of the great number of hotels and B&Bs located in the beautiful historic district. Then again, it has been 35 years since we were last in Savannah!

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are quieter - just don't expect a view!
