The Marshall House is an historic hotel located on East Broughton Street. While the address was likely prestigious at some point in the past, the commercial area in which it is located is struggling to come back from the recession. There is NO view across the street from the rather attractive balcony, unless you like looking at abandoned storefronts, some of which were "improved" in the fifties or sixties. The location is conveniently between the City Market/Riverfront areas and the Historic District.
The service is great (especially the concierge), and we enjoyed an end of day cocktail at the in-house bar. Our room was a suite with a spacious sitting room and the smallish bathroom one gets in older hotels. The issue was the air-conditioning - I have NEVER stayed in a hotel with a/c that blew like you are in a wind tunnel. The only choices were "on" or "off" - and in the "on" position, the vent blew directly on my head. In the end, we made do with running the a/c in the sitting room and turning it off in the bedroom. But I am doubting that this will suffice in the heat of summer. The breakfast included with the room was about what you would get at a Hampton Inn - ok, nothing special.
We will not return, because we now have a sense of the great number of hotels and B&Bs located in the beautiful historic district. Then again, it has been 35 years since we were last in Savannah!

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are quieter - just don't expect a view!

We loved Marshall House...a charming, well maintained property. I'll admit I'm fussy when it comes to hotels...and I could find no fault here!Attention to detail... Clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, lovely common rooms, large room, fabulous location. Walking distance to all squares and attractions. The breakfast offered a good selection. Fresh lemonade to greet us when we returned after a day of sightseeing....The afternoon wine and cheese reception gave us a chance to visit and rest before heading out to dinner. The staff were all so friendly and helpful...they went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.

We allowed the Marshall House to valet park our vehicle. We assumed since we were paying extra for this service that the vehicle would be in a secured location. The Marshall House parked our vehicle in the City of Savannah's State Street parking garage. The State Street garage is a public garage and is open to the public 24/7. For the privilege to park our vehicle, The Marshall House charged my wife and I $30.00 for the weekend. Believing that we were paying for private parking in a secured location, we also tipped the valet to park our vehicle. We gave our vehicle to the valet on Friday and retrieved it on Sunday. When it was returned to us, the glove box had been opened and the contents were laying in the passenger's side floor board. There was an item of great sentimental value in the glove box that is now missing out of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been entered into by force from the outside. I have since contacted the State Street parking garage at 912-651-6473. The overnight rate for parking a vehicle is $3.00 per day/night on the weekend. So, for $9.00 I could have parked my own vehicle in the same facility and made certain the door was locked. Thank you Marshall House for gouging the public for parking and for not securing vehicles left in your care!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

I was taken to Savannah by my two best buds to celebrate my 60th birthday. I can't say enough about what a fabulous experience Marshall House was. We were greeted so warmly by Terry who took care of our car for us and we were treated like honored guests by Charles at the front desk. I have some noise sensitivity issues and my friends specifically asked or a quiet room. Our room was quiet, spacious and spotlessly clean. If you want a view of the street this is not the room for you. But if you want the best night's sleep ever, try room 322. Thoughtfully provided bottles of water, plenty of towels and toiletries for three women and clean, clean clean. Our first evening began at the complementary happy hour though we quickly moved into the bar where we were ably taken care of by James. So smitten were we with the expertly made martinis that we decided to stay there and order dinner. The food was fabulous - try the hearts of romaine, beef tartare and the duck pizza. Then it was off to our room and as we slipped between fabulously soft sheets on our incredibly comfortable bed (and did I mention how clean it was) we fell asleep to absolute silence. Woke up to a delightful breakfast and Carlton (the doorman for all your Rhoda fans) started our day with a smile. You can really tell that the employees at this hotel love working here and they make their guests feel that enjoyment in every interaction.

The Marshall House has the best location in Savannah. It combines historical charm with great service. The rooms are well-kept with updated bathrooms and flat screen tvs. You won't use the tvs much due to the great location near so many activities. I would definitely stay here again!!!!
