“Great Location, large guest suite and pet friendly”
Reviewed April 25, 2011

My husband and I went to Savannah to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Joans on Jones is a great B & B. The location is within walking distance to shopping, parks and quaint dining places. They had a small kitchenette in the room with fresh fruit , muffins, cereal and coffee in the room. They also had brochures for all of the attractions and restaurants in Savannah. It was a very peaceful quite B & B as well as pet friendly.

Joan's on Jones was a perfect spot to see Savannah - Parking was convenient but it was within easy walking distance of most everything we wanted to see. The room was very roomy and comfortable. Provisions for coffee and a continental breakfast were in the room for us to enjoy at our convenience. We had the garden suite - It had a separte entrance from the rear and small garden area where we enjoyed our morning coffee and a before dinner glass of wine. It was an easy walk to the Olde Pink House where we celebrated our anniversary.

Room Tip: The garden suite was excellent

While many B&B goers prefer to socialize with owners and guests, especially over breakfast, we were away from the kids and prefer time to ourselves. Joan and Gary took considerable care to meet our rather demanding requests before we arrrived. The quiet, tree-lined Jones Street location is perfect for walking to the river front or Forsyth Park via Bull Street. Joan proactively confirmed her restaurant picks could handle our important requests- fabulous anniversary dinner at Sundae Cafe. Although the Jones Room could use a softer bed and new kitchen applicances, we look forward to our next visit!

We recently stayed at Joan's on Jones in Savannah. The owners there are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Jones suite. It opens right on to the street in a lovely section of the city.
Savannah is very pet friendly and this Bed and Breakfast is very pet friendly as well. We could walk our dogs to one of the many squares and enjoy the architechture and ambiance of the city.
Nice amenities as well...flowers, wine, dog treats...we will be back!!

Joan and her husband were very accomodating and sweet people. The room would have been great, except that it was dirty. The bedspread should be thrown out, along with the rugs that hadn't been vaccuumed. The floors made my socks black. I would go back IF the place was clean. Otherwise, it was in a great location.

It was cute, but not worth the price. It was not as clean as I would have liked, and at first thought perhaps because the innkeeper seems to have trouble walking... so I felt badly and thought she must not be able to keep it in tip-top shape. But the next day, we saw there was a maid... so I don't get it. I don't have any pets, so the urine smell in the room was very disturbing. The milk in the refrigerator had gone sour, and the croissants were not well cooked, although the muffins were good. Most B&B have a full breakfast though, so to have a contininental was a disappointment. I have to say though that Joan is extremely nice and the room is certainly interesting and it's in a great location... but I would still not go back.

This was our first trip to Savannah, and although It rained most of the time, we had a nice trip.

We'd found Joan's on Jones online when searching for a Bed & Breakfast that allowed dogs. Upon arrival, we were very pleasantly surprised to learn that Jones Street is a prime location in the Historic District. We really liked that we could park our car (parking is included!) and explore the city by foot.

Pros and Cons of Joan's on Jones:

Pros:

-- We stayed in the Garden Suite ("B") - and it was much more like a small apartment than just a "room."

-- The location of the B&B was great. It was literally 1 block from the both the Mercer-Williams House and Monterey Square and 2 blocks from Forsyth Park.

-- The entrance to the Garden Suite is in the back of the house and we felt enabled to come and go as we pleased. For those of us who are pretty introverted, that was a definite bonus!

Cons:

-- Lack of cleanliness. The room was really pretty and the suite was nice, but you could definitely tell it was pet friendly. A strong urine smell permeates the bedroom. The sheets were clean, but the comforter was a little suspect as well. For $160 a night, the room was very dusty and could really use a thorough cleaning. I assumed the $50 pet fee covered the cost of cleaning, but that was not evident.

-- The room is overrun with tour brochures (some of them are very out-of-date). It's nice to know the options, but it would be nicer to not have the brochures everywhere.

-- My husband is a coffee drinker and counted 6 coffee makers in the small kitchen and NOT one was in working order. Again, a little house cleaning is due.

-- The apartment-sized refrigerator was great to have (we'd brought out own drinks), but it made a horrible amount of noise.

-- The bathroom was far from clean. The bottom of the tub is BLACK and the whole room is very dusty. The shower curtain and rug have seen better days.

-- The dog in the main house can be heard above, as can the conversations and TV above. It barked occasionally (a few times in the middle of the night) but wasn't something we couldn't live with.

The muffins, fruit, croissants, and drinks (including a bottle of wine!) were a nice touch as was the bundle of biscuits left for our dog. It's one thing to be "pet friendly" and quite another to be "pet welcoming" - thanks Joan's on Jones!

The suite needs a little TLC, but all in all we weren't there for the room, but were there to see the city.

PS: If you go to Tybee Island, don't take your pet. Pets are not allowed anywhere near the beach.
